so heres the deal me and my friend are going to make a set up in his house when he told me he could get all the equipment from a friend. So ive been asking him again and again and eventually he asked the guy what kind of lights they are and according to his text they are 'Eco Tech Halogen lights the proper ones for the job' but ive looked at the FAQ and that doesnt seem to be the case. has anyone any experience with halogen lights? would it be a complete waste putting my seeds under it? my friend says the supplier of the equipment has grown many a time with these lights. Can anyone help me here?

Those halogen lights will turn your plants into crispy critters. total and utter waste of plant and time to try and grow under them. The guy hasn't grown shit under those lights. They give off so much heat and the spectrum of light isn't the right kind either, you would be better off using CFL. Ultimately you would have an HPS.

Don't pay the guy a cent.Hand him a copy of the growfaq and tell him to keep the halogens for yard lights.

stays relevant.
Halogen bulbs are good for nothing but burning down your house.

My friend once got the idea to use a few halogen bulbs in his closet grow... No more than 1 day later, his entire closet was engulfed in flames. The flames eventually made their way into the attic, which caused $7000 worth of damage to the roof of the home.

Probably the worse light to use.

ai not only are halogen lights no good for growing ... and potential fire hazards but.

being in a situation where you have not only a grow partner but also owe someone half of your crop is a bad bad bad situation ... pretty soon the guy that suplied the lights will say .. about half way into your grow that he wants a few pounds and if you dont give it up he dimes you out and you go to jail ... same with the grow partner ... lets say he gets pulled over and has a bag of weed on him and the cops find it ..
well the grow is at your house so he puts it all of on you and you go to jail while your partner goes free on his bag of weed

trust me im not telling you this to rain on your parade .... grow partners is bad bad bad ... just go buy your own kit and tell the partners you decided it was tooo dangerous to grow and that you aint doin it .
then grow and dont tell a soul not even your best friend

Seriously dude read the Faq if you r trying to grow with halogen you have no idea what you r doing. Read the Jorge Cerventas medical grow bible. Also please do not grow a huge crop you will be unsucessful start small efficient and smart and then work up from there. Biggest pointer though is to read read read and then read more. Peace

WAIT WAIT

there are different halogen types. they vari in bulb style and fitment type

GU10 type fittments are halogen, BUT companys are now selling a CFL version of the standard GU10 halogen bulb. these tend too be used in downlighters and in office/public areas for direct spot effects. they are also used in desk laps and bedroom fitting rails/ bathrooms.

i am now going too start a micro pc case grow using just these new type CFL GU10 bulbs. they are 11w each with a 60d angle and 3000k spectrum. there are also 6000k+ versions.

now it depends on the light fittment and type, halogen bulbs will not work but a CFL halogen type fitting bulb will.

the info we now require is the fitment type of the bulb used in those lights. too what i can gather on info there is only a GU10 type CFL on the market at the mo that replaces small halogen bulbs ( GU10 FItting style two prong push an twist).

pop over too the growroom setup area and check my micro PC grow case thread, it has a couple of clear pictures of the GU10 type CFL. could be ideal for uplighting, they come in 120v/240v/12v
