Hand watering in DWC for the entire grow?

Hi Guys,

I've got 8 babies in 5 gal DWC buckets. Been hand watering them since from the start. They are perky- growing at an exceptional rate and are incredibly healthy. With chalk white roots bursting out of the net pots.

They're under 10- 40w T5's

10 inches above the plant canopy.

Is it possible to continue hand watering them for the entire grow?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

M.

why would you want to? sounds like a lot of unnecessary work to me.

Hi rkymtnman,

Thanks for your speedy response. I've got 3 other mature plants. Am constantly having to combat root rot. which is inhibiting the growth of my roots. Tried Pondzyme and its not really doing the trick. Res temps are around 70F. Would like to use H202 which has worked in the past- I believe it is counter productive for AN's Voodoo Juice. So it was stopped.

So I figured It may be easier to just hand water- to avoid root related issues and happily use the voodoo juice in my daily feedings...

i'm a bit confused as to what you mean by hand watering. a dwc bucket is all the watering you need. could you explain what you mean?

i'm a big fan of chlorine (bleach) to keep away root rot. i used dutchmaster zone in the past. now i'm using HTH pool shock. it works extremely well. and nothing is cheaper than the HTH

Basically, top feeding only- for the entire grow..

Nice tip, I may just give that shot. And utilise the DWC for its entire purpose.

i would. dwc is great except for the dreaded root rot. without a chiller (which is hard to do for multiple buckets), you either need to go a sterile res or one with beneficial bacteria.

Thanks a ton for your advice. Am gonna try clorox bleach- while I wait for my pool shock order to arrive.

Big Cheers rykmtnman !

heres how i mix up hth: you need a pretty accurate scale. i use 0.30grams per 10gallons water. it comes out to 4ppm of chlorine which is about the same as what is in municipal drinking water so safe for humans and plants.
