Hanging Coke cans in your grow room?

While researching using YouTube, i watched a video of a busted grow house and i noticed something i havent seen before.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVBR5EPsiiI

At 1:08, you see Coke cans hanging underneath a carbon filter. Does anyone know what this is for? I would love to know if this is an interesting tip or trick to pest control or something. The only thing i can think of is if bugs get sucked onto the filter, they crawl down the cable and get attracted to the sugar content of the can and get trapped or something. I really dont know. I have tried googling it but you google "coke" with grow room or cannabis, you just get loads of results on drugs we are not interested in =)

Thanks guys.

actually you make a good point about pest control, coke cans are a handy way of catching flies and wasps, dont know if theyd be a good tool against mites... that would definately be handy.

I know what it is for - they put Ona gel (or equivelent) in them so that the air being sucked out of the grow has been freshened even further. It stops the smell of the ona from overpowering the inside of the grow tent/etc as the ona smell is being extracted straight away.

I scratched my head over that one aswell, seen the vid. I found it very interresting seeing that vid in particular because it is a Vietnamese OP. That weed is everywhere in the UK (as u may know), and it is horrible smoke. The only missing part of the puzzle is - what strain do they grow?

its probably for gnats or other airborn pests......leave a little coke or sugar water in them and the gnats go in and get stuck in there.....we used to do it in the lunch room at the hotel i worked at, we had a huge gnat problem

its for da ona gelz. or a dessicant i have use both not only in cans but tons of containers. my guess it was filed with salt,to prolong filter life or ona to help with smell.

You can purchase LADY BUGS at most any nursery or grow store supply chain. They come in ridiculous amounts for cheap and all you have to do is keep them in the freezer in between use. Pretty handy lil' boogers.

Hmm that's sort of ass backwards.. They add a smell (ona) before going though a carbon filter that removes smells.. What? Someone been dipping in the product? All you're doing is fucking up the filter.. If you can still smell the ona on the outside then you filter isn't working..

Lady Birds (ladybugs) are not the best for mites. The are better for aphids. Predator mites, Neoseiulus californicus I hear work the best, or mite destroyers are better.

When you are running a huge sub-standard grow OP such as in the mentioned video, corners are cut. Carbon scrubbers are used longer than they should, or too small a size+cfm etc and smell escapes. These grows get busted all the time.

When working in a grow area it can be overpowering to have Ona in your face all the time, so by having it at the point of extraction it keeps it out your nostrils. Even with scrubbers, plant smells can linger, I'v seen a few setups and most leak smell to some extent. These Vietnam Ops cut corners remember, so best have a feint smell of Ona comming out the other end, than a feint smell of MJ.

u can not put lady bugs in the freezer!!! yes, they will freeze. they r not like goldfish of frogs...they will die if body core temp drops to freezing level. most of the time they wil die if u leave them in the frig as well. lady bugs r cheap so just buy them as needed. or if u have kids, send them out to the yard and collect them for free...thats what i do. i made a 2x2x1 box out of screen and 1x2's. the kids find the lady bugs and put them in the box. i let the lady bugs loose in my grow rooms weather they are needed or not. ive been doing this for a few years and i have never had a mite or any kind of pest prob. not saying its because of the lady bugs...but they do zero harm and the benifits of having them around is 110% good.
on a side note: u must place a screen or some panty hoes on ur intake or your ladys will get sucked through ur fan. every cpl of days i kill my fan for a sec and knock the lady bugs down off the panty hoes and back to the ground. a bunch of dead lady bugs laying around is a good sign they r starving to death which in terms means they have no bugs to eat = healthy, pest free plants

hell ya, do it. its never a bad idea to PREVENT a problem before it happens. eSpecially if the preventative measure is cheap and benificial with zero risk of harm to ur plants. its a win-win no matter how ya do it.
