Hardest part of growing- keeping quiet

i am in colorado and growing mmj is legal for the first time ever for civilians. i am sure there are cops that don't like this and maybe don't feel like being forced to cooperate, not that they can do much anymore but why push them? i guess my point is, i have never worried about cops as much as plain old people, rippers. that was always the biggest threat in my mind. i went to visit a friend in colorado and he and some squatters on his property have 80+ very large plants, some in greenhouses and some just in pots outside and very visible. the sheriff even had to warn him to get them out of sight. supposedly they have mmj cards to cover the grow making it legal but i was told that if a doctor says you can grow 12 plants, 18 plants, that makes it legal while colorado statute says six with just 3 in flower at any one time.
there were about 20 people milling about smoking, drinking beer and wine, it was a "trim party" i was told, trimming off the bottom branches in a very visible way. the whole idea is to grow for resale as they are all broke, most homeless and for their use of course. this just strikes me as being very blatant about the whole thing, almost some sort of protest and very much why many still don't want mmj to be legal. i was glad to get out of there as it makes me nervous, they should be much cooler about this imo. this is many thousands of dollars sitting there that just about everyone knows about. reminds me of the milagro beanfield war. i was just looking for opinions from others that are not in the habit of advertising their grows, although if these folks can hang on to it through harvest the word is already out with customers waiting. or three big guys from the city with a pickup truck, a couple guns and a small chainsaw could clean them out in five minutes. plus the legalities involved thinking they can grow 85 plants when it is actually only 36 with 18 in flower... all 80+ are going to be in flower very soon at the same time. some times there is a good reason to be paranoid. j:-(

Your friend is a retard, I'm sure the sheriff is just elated that he has a whole bunch of homeless people on his property, gets them drunk, parties, and then trims all his plants outside. That sounds like a recipe for success.

Dunno about the paranoia, but that sort of stuff makes it harder on states trying to legalize and those who need legitimate medicine. It should be more about the plants and less about the "scene" if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, I like a party as much as the next guy, but pushing peoples buttons and running up and down the street stoned out in pot leaf t-shirts and shoving it everyone's face is counter intuitive to acceptance.

Blatantly disregarding the law in this manner only helps the anti cannabis camp stronger. And just to play devils advocate, are those plants all the combined people's plants? 20x3 flowering is close to the 80 or so you mentioned. Maybe they just grow communally in that spot?

In time, a new consciousness will arise about cannabis. This is just an example of the excess that still exists from the false belief of lack. NO individual needs 80 plants to begin with. Yes, there are providers and such, but as we move to individual grows, 3 to 6 will produce plenty of medicine/recreational/shamanic-tool produce for any individual.

It will take a great shift in perspective to shake off the past 70-80 years of mass consciousness misinformation/fear/detritus that has been attached to cannabis. Not to mention all the pop culture stuff that probably has not improved the image of cannabis, uh 420 uh yo... It is not impossible that we will go through several fits of overthrowing laws that have been implemented only to have them re-instated. The struggle to be free, though it need not be a struggle, is always littered with unstable mood swings and impassioned actions from any perspective. Excess as illustrated not withstanding.

Smoke smarter. Be free. And walk away from ignorance. Stay away from messy situations like this...

i'm the one that is, maybe not paranoid but feel it would unwise to go there again. glad i am not the only one that feels this way. it is a communal grow but i doubt when they get to accounting part there are enough cards to cover this. my "friend" should know better and the main character in this scene is going to buy a gun for protection. something they wouldn't need if they would just show some restraint in showing off what they are up to, maybe plant some corn, make a veg garden that shows and not be so obvious with the cannabis. i'm thinking maybe some cop with a bad attitude about the new laws has a brother in law or buddy in the DEA, calls in a favor, end of party. i am very happy that colorado legalized mmj because i need it for pain and it would really piss me off if people like this screw it up.
so whether it's legal or not where you are, it is best to just be cool, the cops have been so far.

(for instance, i got stopped by the under-sheriff for herding deer on my motorcycle on the highway and he didn't give me a ticket, just shook his head at me and kind of smiled... it would have been hard for either of us to explain it to a judge and probably a huge fine for 12 or so violations. i was just trying to get traffic moving and the people in their cars cheered me for doing it!). j

i've been waiting for posts like these on how things are progressing in Colorado
will there be more of this? got to think so, but open grows sound like big league trouble
flaunting isn't going to get you anything good, but i guess it's a stage we're going to see for a while
