harsh smoke

Hello ,

After 1 week of drying and 1 week of curing in jars (open once/twice a day for 10 minutes) the smoke is very harsh !
the buds are very sticky and it was difficult to grind by scissors .

does keeping it curing will improve the harsh smoke ?

its possible you didnt dry it enough and there is still moisture, i used to make the mistake of jarring it too soon even though it seemed very dry, there was still a lot of moisture in the stem... Too much.. Even being off a day or two can get the cure off

Were you burping the jars?

whats the rh where you live? Dry? Humid? Maybe throw them in a paper bag for a day

But yes longer you cure the better

Ideally you should dry in the coolest, darkest place you can find (when I say cool, what I mean ideally is somewhere that STAYS cool all the time...a steady temperature is needed for a perfect dry). Also, blowing air over the buds while they are drying will ruin a good dry....ventilation should always be carefully managed so the air is not still, but it isn't "windy" in your drying area.

When you say harsh, what do you mean. What does the weed look and feel like? Soft, hard, crunchy, twiggy, brown, green? If it's brown and twiggy then it's too late to save!

hi majorcoco ,

i dried the weed in the closet hanging upside down for 7 days.
the room was completely dark and 2 fans was in the room ( one of them was direct on the buds distance about 1.5meter from the buds in low power) . temperature was 25-26c and humidity 40-60%

weed is very sticky , the weed not feeling dry . it took me a time to grind the weed by scissors .
now curing the weed for a week , open the jar 1-2 times a day for 10 minutes .

If he lives in a High humidity area 7 days isnt enough time...

but paper bag it for a day or two and retun to jars, you also need to keep the jar open for more than 10 minutes.. Do it for like half hour a day.. At least for the first week

the trick is to really slow dry once in the jars

^^^ True, but he does say 40-60%, which actually should be low enough....

Any chance there could be some fungal or mould going on in the buds? They don't look bad to me, so I'd be surprised, but worth checking if the smell is weird and it isn't drying like you;d expect. Apart from that, paper bag them (no more aiming the fan at the buds as they dry BTW...blow the air out of the closet they're drying in..never directly on the buds) until the stems get a little more brittle, then re-jar.

Its still wet hence the harsh smoke... If it still feels that wet after a day in the bag keep it in another day an so fourth but dont let the stem completely dry out so it can cure

Its gotta be higher than 40-60 or it would have dried in 7 days.

It's better to have too much moisture than too dry.
The cure/jarring evens out the moisture + lets the chlorophyll slowly evaporate.
If the outside of the bud gets moist again> then remove from jars + put in paper-bags.(like previously stated)

Sometimes you won't have the true flavor/potency of the genetics/product until it's dried+jarred for 3 wk.-4wk.

of course its better or you wont have a cure, but jarring not dry enough is also just as bad not only for mold but can quadruple the drying /curing time and yes sometines it will take a month to get itto its pote ntal, my guess from the op is the smell and look is great its the harsh smoke.

Get em out of the jars for a little longer..... I used to dry and jar and burp every day too, then I learned how too do out right... Drying and curing are 2 separate processes, they should be dry so when you put then in the jar for a day then check on them they still feel dry, if not dump them out and let them dry longer.... If they still feel dry close them up and check on them in a week if they still feel nice leave them go for a couple weeks unless you need some herb then get out enough to last you a week and leave then be. Kyle Kushman said to let the gases build up in the jar so there is no oxygen to feed bad bacteria, when you burp every day you feed the bad guys. Since I took his advice it's been nothing buy love... Dry dry dry not bone dry but fucking dry enough to smoke or damn close to it

many things cause harsh herb. Too heavy nutes at the end will cause it. Nitrogen causes popping when burnt. drying too fast will also cause it.

by looking at ur picture, I would tighten up your trim on your flowers, the harshness could partially be from a loose trim. but yes they do need to be cured longer as well.
