Harvest time question(s)

First, when I read about a strain having a certian flowering period, say 60 days for example, is that 60 days from introduction to 12/12 lighting, or is it 60 days from it showing the first sign of flowering? I've got one(not sure of strain), that I put into 12/12 around Dec. 30, it showed female hairs at around Jan 11, and I think it's close but not quite ready yet. It's just a small plant maybe 6-7 inches high with one large bud. It's covered with mostly white hairs with quite a few reddish/brown ones. How do you tell when it's done?

use a 30x scope to look at the tricomes. Its another tool but its the most accurate way to gague the ripeness of your crop.

u want to wait till most of those hairs are brownish/orange and trichomes are just a little cloudy, then is time to snip snip....

this is more about from the first signs of sex to harvest, those 60 days, but this just ruff estimation, to hit with harvest on target you have to check the state of the colas as the guys described to you, this will tel you for every single plant if time has come:)

This same plant actually just started to show what looks like male flowers coming from the buds. I've heard that this is normal near the end of flowering. But do I clip those off, or is it time to clip this plant? I'd say maybe a few shy of half of the hairs are brown/orange now. I am eager to pull this one as I've got next to nothing to smoke, but I don't want to shortchange myself by pulling it to early either.

Hmmm, if you put them on flowering around Dec. 30 your buds should be done or almost done (depending on your light). The first question you asked is 60 days from when you change it to 12/12. 12/12 is the flowering period. You should be able to tell when it's done (without a microscope at least) when 2/3 (66%-70%) of all of the hairs have turned red/orange. Then cut and begin the harvest!!!

i have been wondering the same thing, my trichomes are either clear or a little cloudy and some starting to turn an amber color (i think) and all of the hairs now have turnes reddish brown. but i got a reply today that says i should let them mature more, i have lots of photos up on my posts, so could someone please take a look at my grow journal and let me know if i should take them down now, i just stopped feeding nutrients yesterday and im going to flush with water for the next 10 days.

oh yeah they have been in the flowering stage since Jan.15/06 with 2 1000 hps lights and it's been 6 weeks already.

honest advice needed quick, i really dont want to pull them iff they're not ready yet and they really aren't that big at all either.

Never go by the color of the hairs. Go by the Trichomes only. The hairs can fall off and be replaced by new ones, this a a bad way to judge.
You have to have at-least a 30x glass to see this.
