Harvest window

I have two plants that are 6 weeks into flowering. I thought they'd have a good 3 weeks left but all the leaves are starting to yellow and fall off. Under my 60x mag the trichs are cloudy but almost no amber and one still has a good amount of clear i think. My question is will they continue to finish flowering and trich color changing even though we're come close to losing all their leaves?

First they look great, are you still giving them nutes? Or have you started their flush? They should finish out just fine. As long as she doesn't think she is done she will continue to mature. I know that about a week into their flush the leaves should start yellowing but it seems a bit early.

Feed them?

I did flush a bit too early I think. Haven't given nutes in a week or two so maybe I did it too early and for too long. I just dont wanna harvest too early. One I've done before and she could technically come down now but the other ive never grown before and although her colas are way bigger, she seems to be moving slowly on the trichs color changing

Yeah, I rushed my first one, and while it turned out better than the schwag I was getting, it was not as good as it could be. Are you looking for a more sedative like effect. Or a get up and go do something kind of effect? Basically indica or sativa, which do you prefer? I like sativas but my wife likes indicas. If you harvest early, no matter the strain it will have a more cerebral and creeper effect.

Well one is a sativa strain and I want it to stay sativa, thats the one that looks more ready to go. The other is indica and its the one with more cloudy/clear and almost no amber yet. I prefer sativa in general though.

I ended up cutting 2 pineapple Express early by about 2 weeks and I get almost 0 couch lock. The one I was able to save to let truly finish is way more effective at couch locking me. Same strain.

My setup is as simple as I could come up with. I use 5 gallon bins from Lowe's, people say I crazy for it but I use coir and perlite with a solid perlite top layer between .25 &.5 inch deep. In little 3 inch seedling pots that I turned into net pots. I use GH's trio at their recommended drain to waste concentrations and get no nute burn. There is 2 gallons of solution and a 10 inch air stone in each bin that I top off every few days. The air pump is a commercial one i got from Amazon. I don't remember the model or specs. I fell back on a reliable acronym K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Nice sounds legit, you may have sparked an idea for my next grow

Oh! Tell me! I love new ideas and out of the box thinking. My last idea didn't turn out so well. Got some supplemental lights for my tent, but damn do they run HOT. They're not in there anymore.

When you harvest will not change a plant from being sativa or indica.

Your plants have many weeks to go and you stopped feeding them wasaaaay too early. From what I can see in these pictures they both appear to be fullying growing fresh buds still which means you have 4+ weeks left and shouldn’t be looking at trichomes or thinking about flushing or harvesting for at least that long.

I’m not trying to be harsh I know you are a new grower. Most cannabis plants mature in a very predictable manner. You need to watch for ALL the signs a plant gives before it is ripe.

First 90% + of the stigma(pistils) turn reddish and shrink towards the buds. That is the sign that the plant is done trying to reproduce and is beginning to mature.

Second after the stigma have changed the plant will begin to swell internally. It won’t get much bigger on the outside, but will get denser and put on significant amounts of weight. That usually takes 2-3 weeks. The bracts will begin to fatten and look plump.

Finally at the end of the swelling period you can check trichomes and look for your desired level of ripeness. It’s important to check trichomes on the buds not the leaves. And it’s also important to try to look at trichomes from the side to be able to really tell if they are cloudy yet. Looking from the top often gives a false impression of the ripeness because the rounded trichome head can magnified the opaque trichome stalk below it.

I wasnt trying to say you can change the genetics, but harvest time effects experience. When harvested at just barely ripe, I've noticed a slower onset, that seems to cause significantly less couch lock. Versus well and fully ripened having a more sedative effect. This may be subjective, I have a test pool of 2.

Ive found it’s more of a less high and more high thing. From my experience with 1k+ plants over the last 14 years from a variety of strains. The effect is really mostly strain dependent, when you harvest more determines intensity and duration. Harvest early and you get low intensity short duration. Harvest when the plant is ripe and you get more intensity and longer duration.
