Harvesting half a plant

I'm sure this has probably already been addressed but i ran a search and couldn't find anything matching my question exactly so apologies if i just missed it.

I'm fairly new to this and i don't have a magnifying glass but the top of my plant is looking like its overdue to be harvested, ie getting some brownish dead looking areas starting to appear in the bud however the buds on the bottom half of the plant look very premature. So my question is, if i harvest the crown and the top branches is it then possible to leave the bottom half of the plant growing for another 3 weeks or so so that the remaining buds form properly?

Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.

Need pics! And are you indoor or outdoor? If pods are turning brown then prob past due. Whats the strain? How long been flowering? MORE INFO!

Its a blue mystic, grown indoors however being a beginner and i think i fed it too many nutes and allowed it to develop a nasty case of spider mite so the plant was fairly stressed for the duration of the budding cycle. I'm not too sure how long its been budding for now either but its probably been around 12 weeks and i recently flushed it to get rid of the salt build up from excessive feeding and killed the spider mites but here's some photos anyways.

The first pic here is inside the crown and you can just start to see some brown areas developing and the second pic is the bud on the top branches which again is starting to get some brown areas...

IMG_0251.jpg This pic isn't as clear but i have shaky hands so was the best i could do! This is one of the lower buds and as you can see from the background, the bottom half is looking much greener and healthier than the top but it still looks like it has a fair way to go till its actually condensed bud...

What do you reckon, can i chop the top and leave the bottom?! Will the bud at the top still be a good smoke and if i leave the bottom growing will it eventually turn into proper bud too or not?

Cheers mate

So I've cut the crown off and i've cut the top branches about half way down so now the plant is about half the height it was before. Question though, on the branches i cut off half way down, will the buds on the bottom half continue to grow and develop further if i leave them growing for a few more weeks or will the rest of the plant now just die/stay the same as it is now cause if so i may as well just chop the whole plant?

Hi tasco :)

Yupp your on the right track ... with the tops off the lower part of the plant will keep going till its ready , It's not uncommon for people to take the tops off befor the lower sections are fully matured :)

I would like to see them top buds after they are dryed and trimmed :)

I agree ... small investment can make ALL the differnce
Unless you have the micro setting (on expensive digital cameras) that allows you to see the color of the trichs, a monoscope, WITH AT LEAST 30X MAGNIFICATION, is a sure way of seeing how far along you are.
And also, I really don;t see any bud rot either. I think you just have a strain who genetics has leaves that turn copperish, goldish, or a purpleish type thing.
