Harvesting Now Western Ma

Crazy as it sounds, all indications led me to harvest what I would usually think is weeks early. Trikes are all milky, all is in order. I did start my seeds in April, and got a slightly early jump, all I can say is it was a good harvest, and I’m very happy to have most of it hanging. Will try to find some trike pics for the post. Ps in the last photo, there’s spots on my lens, not clear trikes

Looks like you checked the trichomes from the leaves instead of the calyx. So you probably did chop too early because leaves gives you a false reading since they mature faster.

I started 20 feminized seed in april too, only 2 are as far along as yours and still no amber so I'm thinking 2 more weeks for a nice jump in yield.

Your tric's look similar to mine and I've got about 3 weeks left. Though it should still be good smoke I don't believe it reached its potential.

Just to clarify things so I understand. What do you mean check the calyx instead of the leaves? Is it true they can give you false readings? So I guess never read from the leaves aye?

You are not suppose to read it by the leaves no. You are suppose to take a scope and check out the calyx itself. That is why so many people in my opinion chop weeks early, because they are checking the sugar leaf instead.

Yes, you are correct, and I am sad, lol. I mentioned this is the first year I’ve used a “real scope” after listening to SO MANY PEOPLE say over and over, “the trichones must be cloudy, some amber” but they never FINISH the sentence and say “on the calyx “ So I harvested a bit early, the readings I got were in fact false on 4 of my 8 plants chopped, 4 remain.
This is one of the reasons I joined this site, which is already proving productive, to learn these important factors. My crop could have reached more potential. The buds were big and very sticky, and another thing that prodded me into chopping was the infamous bud rot. It showed up in 3 places overnight. Only a handful had to be cut out and discarded, but I’ve no doubt that once it appears like that, it can only get worse, sometimes amazingly fast. I lost some beautiful plants one year, never knew since it was the inside rot.
Thank you for clearing this up for me, I am very grateful. Here’s a pic of one I’ve got left still thriving. This one will have “cloudy trikes on the calyx” and I’ll try to post some pics.

Wait - did you say leaves of the calyx? I took the pics right from the center of the bud tops, I thought the calyx was the small pointy ball at the node the pistols come out of? Because those have some clear?

Wow...those are some frosty buds. If you can wait several weeks for the rest to finish, do so. I usually plop my scope right on a swollen calyx of a bud. Tho I will admit it's rare that I even use a scope anymore. I'm one of the few that really rely on the over all appearance of the bud. I wait for the pistils to recede and die and then pull back into the bud. That is after the swell comes. I guess yrs of growing has gotten me to the point you can just "tell". Anytime I've waited that long has been most rewarding in flavor, potency, and over all yield....its just better.
You can tell if you take a bud when you think it's done and take one every week til it's totally ripe. The one you harvest at the end will be superior.

Iam in Massachusetts as well , started in April indoor, put outside on Mother’s Day. Still got probably 3-4 weeks And a lot of those cheap scopes off Amazon suck, a decent phone can give a better look see than those imo

That does seem early to me, but your plants are much further along than mine. I'm up in Southern Ontario.

Personally I would at least partially judge by the plant as well. Your plant looked vibrant and healthy so I would have waited until it looked a bit more tired and "mature" before harvesting.
