Have we gotten so far out of touch with nature?

Hey all, I have noticed a ton of newbies and even some vet growers having issues with their grows. You've seen them I am sure. And alot of the answers are getting pretty overly stated and simplified. Who has not seen a reply like this...Get some cal/mag...And that is all. Alot of people using a string of nutes and additives, growing in this medium or that.

When I made the choice to grow, after reading this forum and watching grow dvd's until my eyes bled. I decided I would use the K.I.S.S. theory for my grows. Got some soil, perlite, an idiot proof set of nutes and went to town. I have never had an issue with deficiencies, overages, insects, molds, fungi or anything.

IMHO cannabis has been growing naturally for centuries with no help from any one accept the sun, the soil, and rain clouds. God (or whatever your deity may be) does not put seeds in a paper towel to germinate, he/she does not add bottles of chemicals and powder mixes to the soil. etc I am sure you get the point I am making.

I know what I am likely to get in response is..."Yes cannabis grows wild on it's own, but I want to grow GOOD cannabis". And I certainly understand that and am not suggesting we should all go in our back yards drop some seeds and grow our MJ. But why make it so darn complicated? I have seen more posts with plants that are ill or infested because their parents 'loved them to death'.

So, to make a long post short (sorry I know I missed that boat already). For anyone reading this who has never grown anything but older and wiser. Why not start with the basics and keep it simple. You can always experiment later or change mediums and/or methods. But at least you will have the satisfaction of a successful grow under your belt first.

You won't get any argument from me. But you will never convince the many that have fallen for nothing more than slick marketing that they don't need those twenty plus bottles of goodies. Or that if they are not following some insane feeding schedule that their plants won't grow well. Or that the reason why their plants look like crap is because they are feeding them all that junk they don't need. It's not worth the argument to even bother trying to open their eyes.

To many chemicals are used these days
K.I.S.S is the only way to go for me.
I keep it basic, low budget and no real problems.
Yah, I get a yellow leaf or a spot. But, I don't panic. Just correct the problem and move on.
I read the forum and just shake my head. All I can say after reading some of the post is "WHY!!!"

Here is my basic grow... sorry would post more pictures later... camera batts dead and I can't find the fricken charger.

Hey BkB start your own thread... j/k

I totally agree and while I'm only on my 3rd grow I like you read, watch and listen (always a student never a master) to all the info I can and am lucky enough to live in a state where I am legal and can openly talk to other patients about this plant without fear.

I tend to give lengthy answer / questions and notice long Q and A's don't get responded to as frequently. I am thankful for those that do.

I'm curious, why so many different sized containers, veg some longer than others?

I keep it simple too. Even if I have problems my girls still do pretty well it's called experience. I'm always growin new shit and from lemon haze to bubba kush it's all very simple don't skimp, understand why and how u care for plants and keep on top of things. And don't panic plan it. My biggest problem is not enough time or energy. But I hear ya, but it takes experience. And lots of reading and experimenting as well. But I save most experiments for outside.

Containers sizes are based upon how long you are going to keep the plant in there....(Longer veg time = roots expanding the whole time) and you don't want to be root bound.....

Vegging longer will increase your yield....(in the shortest words possible) a lot of people do 12/12 from seed AND veg quick to keep plants short, because of space constraints.

(Longer veg time is nice so your lst can take effect.....or your topping....or fimming....and that means more tops)

I have to agree with you Bk. I know that in doing my first grow currently, I am getting way too stressed and fear that it will lead me yet to another heart attack (have had 2 in the past 3 years). Forty years ago a man told me .. "It is just a weed, and will be a weed at best." I tend to agree 100% that there are so many companies out there that are vying for that almighty dollar stating that their product out does this and that. I bit into the whole enchilada getting my first grow growing, having already doled out in excess of $1300. I came across someone that had some killer weed on here, from Vermont, and I think he spent like $50 bucks for everything.

I know if I had to do it all over again, i would have at least a grand in my pocket in needless spending thus far.
Great Post and the Best of 2012 to You.

Ah...the containers.. funny thing. Nah.. no reason. When they get bigger move to bigger pot.
Just had these lying around. Couldn't buy new ones of the same size. The stores here put away there summer related items and sell only winter related things. I can't even find a 8 - 12" fan @ homedepot. Only the huge box fan.
The clones in the cups are Green crack, White widow give aways for some friends. They can buy there own containers..lol

Hope that answers your question

I consider it an honor to have earned your 420th post! Yeah I saw a pic on the grow room set a couple of weeks ago. A total newb with like 15 different bottles of shit stacked in front of his closet. He was planning a 3 plant grow. Yeah, he may get a few more grams of stash out of it, but I am sure he shelled out much more than that is worth. And, in a few weeks he will likely post with "Help, my girls are turning pink and orange!" LOL!
