Having trouble with germinating my seeds.

I have tried germinating my 3 autoflower seeds. I placed them in a moist paper towel. I have placed them between 2 plates and sat them on my cable box. The seeds will crack and thats it. I can never get a good taproot. They crack open and stop. So what am I doing wrong. Why cant I get a seeds to start the correct way? What is another good way to start seeds?

what i do that works for me is get a shot glass and fill it with warm water and put a seed in it and let it soak for 24 hours then put it into the moist paper towel. i have had 100% germination rate with this. could be a bad seed.

Yea I was thinking bad seeds too. I had the same thing happen the last time I bought seeds. So I emailed the seed bank and told them my seeds were crushed when I got them. So they sent me new seeds and the same thing again. They start to sprout, them just stop. They crack open but no taproot.

Its most likely bad seeds. I am having the same problem this week with some seeds I ordered. They crack and a small taproot will poke out maybe an 1/8 of a inch and that's it, nothing else ever happens. Only 2 out of 6 actually survived. It can't be anything I am doing since I have never had any issues before, the only thing it can be is the seeds. I am thinking something happened during shipping. Perhaps the X-ray machine or something like that at customs. I ordered extra seeds just in case a situation like this arises.

Starting seeds in a paper towel is one way to germinate, don't know if I would call it the correct way. Call me silly, but I put a seed in the dirt. I have never had 3 seeds not germinate. I've had a seed not germinate, or be a weakling when it broke through the soil, but to have multiple seeds not germinate has never happened to me. As a farmer, I plant billions of seeds every year, no paper towels involved.

ok thank you for the reply. I will be sure not to use paper towels again. I will plant straight into soil for now on.

Paper towel method works just fine with me and been at it for several times already the past three years. Could be bad seed really especially if all or most of the seeds did not germ. Try another seedbank that not only replaces seeds but also gives you quality ones.

i myself use paper towel method too. i just moist the paper towel, and make sure theres a bit of excess water on the plate too. i put my seeds in the middle and store in a drawer and check in 3 days depending how hot it is.. if its real warm in my house ill check sooner because i dont want them to dry out

possibly you're planting the seedling too deeply. i always so seeds directly into the finishing pot. less handling reduces chance of a fuck up. GL

paper towels are pretty crappy for germinating. they dry out too fast. germinate in soil. moisture and bottom heat are key. use a heat mat. keeps soil temps at 70F.

Thats why you put the paper towel between two paper plates, then it doesnt dry out. So its not crappy for germinating. The only thing crappy is your critical thinking skills and your advice.

How is that even relevant to his question? Do all your billions of seeds also survive? Doubt it. If he had billions of MJ seeds it would be more practical to throw them in dirt as well. When you only have a few seeds more care should be taken.

As for the OP, it's usually a good idea to wait for several responses to your question and then evaluate as opposes to trying the first thing said or everything said. As you learn more and more you will see there is a lot of bad advice given on the internet.

98 percent germination rate. Seed is tested and certified before being planted. Germinating in paper towels isn't taking care, it's just another way to do it. Saying paper towels is one way to do it but I wouldn't call it the correct way is not bad advice, it's just advice you don't like. You wanna use paper towels, go ahead. I don't have time for that, and it seems a little silly. Besides, it was meant as tongue in cheek. Sorry your pantie are so tight.

It may be time to grow your own seeds (if you have the strain growing). Those males are not always bad. They're good for something - seeds.
