Hawaiian Indica CFL Closet Grow

It's been an up and down. First, #702 was removed from the flowering room and placed in a cabinet in darkness for ~48 hours. This evening she was removed from the cabinet. Unlike #1601, all shriveled up leaves were removed prior to her being hung upside down in a box. She will remain there for the next 48-72 hours until she is sufficiently dry for trimming and canning.

Unfortunately I had to completely tear down the flowering room. My water heater broke beyond my capabilities for repair and I had to call in the maintenance guy. That forced me to put #703 into the darkness cabinet. Though she is close to done, I am not sure she is. I am undecided about starting her back on 12/12 or to just start the harvesting process.


#'s 23, 25, 27 and 29 continue to impress. They are responding well to the FIMing and pushing new shoots out rapidly. They will be cloned as soon as they have sufficiently large sprouts. As soon as I have confirmation that the clones are viable, I will start flowering the plants. I may hold one plant back as a permanent mother. Of course, plans may change based upon unforeseen developments. First, I have to rebuild the flowering room and will be taking this opportunity for a slight redesign.

#702 was just moved from the drying box and trimmed for canning. The total weight was 15.2 grams. #702 has a very different smell. It is much sweeter. However, the illness the plant suffered earlier in veg definitely reduced it's yield. #703 has been in darkness for the last 72 hours. She has moved rapidly to finish up. She will spend about another 24 hours in the darkness cabinet before being cut down.

I just cut down #703 after she spent 4 days in a dark cabinet. She is hung upside down to start the drying process. She measured about 13-14" tall at cut down. She is the least stinky of the 3 plants. Here are her last pics while alive.

The young ones (#23, 25, 27 and 29) continue to do well. They are over 12" tall and are popping clones all over the place. They will be cloned soon and then flowered as soon as they recover and I get the flowering room setup again.

Just now I selected 2 buds from the #1601 harvest, put them in a grinder and smoked them. The harvest had dropped from 19 grams to 12 grams. The buds look done and smokable. My friend describes the high as "a theraputic massage to the brain and face, a very deep body high." It also has a couch lock component to it. I am very pleased.

Wow that would have broke my heart but at least you did eventually got to harvest some good quality bud, this is the best CFL grow I have seen and honor you for your hard work. You should check out my new journal this is my second round. Nothing to be compared to the setup you have/had but it will do for me. How long did you veg that baby to get 15.2g and under what wattage of light Im sorry I must have missed it.

Today was cloning day. I took 2 clones each from plants 23, 25 and 29. In 1 week I plan to put #'s 23, 25 and 27 into flowering. I may hold them back a little to make sure a clone will survive. I have 2 potential plants, #'s 30 and 31, in 6" pots w/ african violet soil. They are some kush code named "murda." I have 50 more murda seeds left.

I have very good smokable bud from #1601. I will have smokable bud from #702 soon. I will have smokable bud from #703 in 10-14 days. The total will be about an oz.

I just ordered a grow tent online. It should be here next week. Otherwise just good news. the 4 2x series plants continue to impress. The 3 tallest are 19" tall. #29 is absolutely beautiful. I've never seen branching like she has in any cannibus plant. The clones continue to progress, with 1/8" root nubs on most of them.

Overall I have finished the concept for the next stage of my grow up. I am hoping the tent works well. Assuming it does, I will have room for up to 9 flowering plants. My veg room supports up to 4 plants in 12" pots, or up to 24 6" pots. The nursery could support up to 24 clones. I plan to keep one mother, probably #29. That will give me 3 other spaces in the veg room. Given a 4-5 week veg cycle, and an 8-9 week flowering cycle, I can have 2 batches of 3 plants comfortably in the flowering tent, while the next batch of 3 plants in the veg room. I might be able to get 3 batches of 3 in the grow tent, but its going to be tight. If I can find a place for the permanent mother outside of the veg room, I could do batches of 4. Either way, some number of seeds/clones will compete to be in the next batch to veg. It's taken over a year but my grow op is finally becoming all that I hoped it could be.

It's been a big week, and a red letter day today for my grow op. I ordered a 3'x3'x6.5' tent which arrived earlier in the week. I constructed a "chandelier" to hold my cfl's out of the steel studs I had used to build the prior grow room. Within the last hour all work was finished and the girls were ready for flowering. I took 5 more clones from #'s 25 and 27 from lower branches that won't get much light nor produce much bud. The expected value of cloning those shoots is higher than leaving them on the plants. My grow op is now capable of supporting plants in all 3 phases of life.

#'s 25 and 27 are just short of 20" tall and over 12" wide. #23 is about 19" tall though not quite as wide as I believe she suffered an Mg deficiency, likely due to pH issues, earlier in veg. #25's stem is over 0.5" thick, and #27's is just a little smaller.

I am flowering 3 out of the 4 plants. I am holding back #29 as I wish to make her a mother. I am concerned that she doesn't seem to clone as easily as #25 and #27. #27 clones the quickest. Her clones I took a few weeks ago are almost ready for soil. #25's is a little behind her, and #29's are a little behind that.

The grow op is now capable of continuous production. I have the flowering area in the grow tent. I can definitely get 6, and possibly 8 or 9 plants in there. My veg area is in a corner of a closet in my place. That can hold up to 4 plants in 12" pots, or up to 16 in 6" pots. I also have a nursery, on a shelf in the closet holding the veg area, where I keep clones and seedlings before they can tolerate the light and wind in the veg area.

The next generation, I call them the 3x series, is working their way up from the nursery to the veg area. The 3x series, you may recall, is not Hawaiian Indica like my current crop. She was bag seed from some kush that I bought. My guy called the strain "Murda". #32 is the most advanced of the 3x series, at about 4" tall and rapidly growing. There are 3 others in that series that recently broke above soil. I am very interested to see how they grow/look/smell/taste compared to Hawaiian Indica.

I am very excited to see what kind of yields I get from the 2x series of plants. They are each under 2x 42 actual watt 2700k cfl's. I will probably add a few more bulbs for side lighting and a little more top lighting in the next week or so. I am hoping for a couple z's per plant. All I want to see tomorrow is a few more white hairs.

Today is day 14 flowering for #'s 23,25 and 27. They are progressing more and more rapidly with bud production. They are nearing 22" tall. They were watered about 24 hours ago with 0.5 gallon each w/ 3 drops of white vinegar, and 75% recommended strength of flowering nutes. 2 drops of blackstrap molasses were added to the mix, stirred well, and slowly poured into each pot. #29 was given the same mixture, despite still being in veg, for simplicity sake. The next generations are booking space in the flowering room. Before feeding the flowering plants, I transplanted the #29 clones into soil last night from their solo cups. Although weak and slightly shocked, they appear to be forming new leaf and I believe they will make it.

#32 has grown rapidly and is now over 6" tall. It appears consistent enough with being female that I am now in fact referring to her as her. #36 was executed for failing to meet standards and her pot was given to #2701 or #2702. #33 needs to improve or she will face the same fate. #'s 34 and 35 still have a chance but I would like to see more out of them. The seeds were weak so I'm going to give them a chance.

I will be reconstructing the veg room soon as I am currently very busy in other endeavors. I will also attempt to build a better cloning solution, to decrease the turnaround time on cloning from 1 month to 1 week.

My friend had about 10lbs of extra dry ice. I was more than happy to help him dispose of it. I slightly rearranged the flowering tent to allow my veg-stage plants to squeeze in. I turned on all the lights and put the dry ice in a cooler in the center of the tent. I sealed up the intake and left the top of the door slightly unzipped, as temps were near 100 inside. I'm hoping for visible results tomorrow.

The grow looks even better. The CO2 treatment didn't hurt. There are more bud sites. The pre-existing bud sites are bigger. The clones all responded well too.

A seed from the "murda" seeds sprouted the other day. It spent over a month in paper towels, wet, on a plate on my cable box. I put it in some african violet soil. it spent last night and today in the flowering tent. temps were in the mid 90's at the canopy, prolly in the low 80's lower down where the newly named #37 was placed. i came home to discover it already poking above the soil. i helped remove the seed case. it already had the start of serrated leaves.

i will have some free time to upgrade my grow this week. i am going to construct a chandelier to hold cfl's in the veg area. that area was deconstructed earlier do to some unrelated issues. it needs to be rebuilt to better distribute light, like before. its a serious issue because i have several cuttings that will be ready for 6" pots soon and several babies in 6" pots looking for 12" pots. i have room to veg 4x 12" plants comfortably. i am hoping to have 4 plants, currently vegging, ready for flower in a month. the currently flowering plants will be done around that time. also, i will be taking more clones from, and putting into flower, #29. she is ready and i am interested to see what she does given her slightly different phenotype.

I upgraded the grow op today. I moved 7 plants from 6" pots to 12" pots. I didn't plan to move this many but it had to be done. I want to get them ready for flowering asap.

Last night I fimmed 4 plants, #'s 32, 2701, 2702 and 2502. 2501 will be fimmed soon but she was not at the right spot to do it last night.

I took a good look at #29. She has been really healthy lately. I will get you some nekkid pics of her soon as she is something that I have never seen.

All clones have been transplanted to soil (sphanghum peat moss). All appear to be surviving. So far I am 9 out of 10 on clones.

The flowering plants continue to progress. Oddly, like my last crop, there seems to be 1 healthy plant, who doesn't smell, is very green, big and slow flowering. There is a medium size plant who smells moderately exactly like the bud she came from, and drops leaves fast in flowering. And then there is a 3rd plant, who got sick a little bit and is yielding the smallest amount of bud but with a chocolate-like odor. Random? or am I doing something wrong.
