Heads up bargain hunters

A new store in Colorado Springs is advertising several buy one get one free items for May. One of the items is a bale of Pro-Mix HP. Sounds good huh?

So I went down there and asked the guy for a couple bales. He says it'll be $78 bucks. I said woah, I want the bogo deal advertised. So he says ok, $65. I was like what the fuck are you talking about man? So by the single bale it's $39, but the bogo bale is $65? That's not buy one get one free, that's buy 2 get a good discount.

The place is called 'Way to Grow'. Looked like the run of the mill warehouse style hydro store. The guy had never heard of a ceramic metal halide bulb before.

Just wanted to let the growers know.

Luckily, as I am on my way to ROLS and no till gardening this will likely be the last time I go into a hydro store.

Yes, thanks Cave, good to know where the deal is not as good as it sounds. When I went to Grow Depot I had to haggle a bit to get the price that was advertised on their website. Turns out the web store is totally different business so the prices are quite different, higher in the storefront. But it turned out fine, the guys working there are awesome, and not just cause of the price match, but they were giving out advice on growing and were very helpful. Same story at Cultivate CO, prices are all over the place, very high on foam disks, low on netpots, low on pumps, high on Botanicare, and their website is a disaster, but again the folks who work there are great and I'll keep doing business at both stores.:-o

Dispo and I were actually in the way to grow (its off garden of the gods rd) and was told of the same deal going on. sale starts tomorrow, first of the month. Brian is one of the good guys there. very knowledgeable and likes to talk shop with us whenever we visit. Andrew is the boss, equally smart but sometimes not in the best mood.

Thanks Caveman, I used to watch your show as a kid :-)

Here's the advert. I've had good luck with WTG, mostly because they have a large selection. Always lots of new folks working there... pay must not be stellar. And yeah the boss is a grump sometimes, but he is knowledgeable and helped me gather the stuff I needed to make compost teas... but you could tell he had other stuff to do lol.

Having said that, I have 48 cuft of soil I need to come up with for my above ground veggie planters. That's a hefty bill, so I'm hoping I have better luck than Cap'n getting them to get the buy one get one free math right. I'm thinking of mixing the pro-mix 1:1 with the other soil they have on sale (Vermi Fire), which the boss at WTG told me it is hotter than FFOF...

I would just get some "planters mix" from the local landscape supply bubba, maybe amend it with the pro-mix. Just my thoughts, but it is the way i plan to go for my garden, roots is too damn expensive!
