Heat. Fans. Closet

Okay so i got a question probably simple to get to.

I got a closet and it has like a shelf thingy above the grow area splitting it into 2 sections (bottom of it has room and there pretty big space on the second part) So its like a 2 story closet lol.

If i cut holes in the wood and put fans Sucking the air up.. Will it keep the bottom cooler?

(Small Computer fans)?

;-) Heat rises so we can see

And i also put a sheet in front of both ways of accessing it so. it should block it. What do you think?

i think you should figure out something else if heat is an issue...the heat will eventually build up in the closet regardless i believe.

can you do one or two fans on the top sucking up the hot air and two on the bottom pushing the cold air in?

you will be suprised how much air the computer fan will move. roughly between 50 to 100 CFM - surely this is enough for his grow. He is mentioning the closet and not a full size grow room.

or just go with a fan up top for exhaust and passive intake at the bottom...if you cant get 2 decent size fans in for both.

Some move even more than that, but do not create enough pressure to move air out of and cool off an entire closet. Especially if he is using hotter lighting. If it's HID lighting, forget about PC fans.

I once had a 148 watt CFL cab, 2 x 2 x 4, and had a 70 cfm pc fan in there for exhaust, and temps were way too high. I tried doubling up the fans and had 2 exhausting, then added another for an intake, and still the temps were over 80f.

An inline duct fan (like $30 at most hydro shops or Home Depot) should be the smallest fan he should consider for cooling a closet. The 8" preferably. 4" are a waste of time and money. 6"s are okay, but for an extra $5, the 8" is the way to go.

Lol i have more than one pc fan. Also i do have decent fan This is how i look at it. 2 fans sucking air up. Then have a little 2 pedal fan blowing it out (towards the door) This way it will go like a cycle? Am i correct?

I take it this is your first grow?

PC fans are better at moving air around the grow room or closet, as opposed to exhausting hot air from the grow area.

I remember my first grow, in 1993, I tried to cut a lot of corners, and go cheap on certain things, and I ended up having to buy more stuff to do it right.

Unless you have a very small closet, and a smaller LED, under 200 (actual) watts, PC fan(s) will not be adequate for exhaust, unless you have a bunch of them, then it would just be a bunch of wires and stuff in the way, where 1 inline duct fan would take care of it all, and only for $30.

If you're anything like me though, you will have to learn the hard way.

That fan says it's $169?

For a fraction of that you could get something like this, and it will work tons better (and quieter).

As for the lights, you can grow a plant with that little amount, I just wouldn't expect much of a yield, maybe 1/2 oz. You can pick up a 12 pack of 23 watt CFLs from Home Depot for like $21. Then you could expect more like 1/4 LB from your harvest.

I have that fan thats on ebay for that much already. =] Just have to cut a hole for it and it's a pain without an electric saw. I also have more bulbs. How many watts do i need for 1/4 harvest? Thanks

(I messed up i found that fan in my house. Sorry i confused u xD.)

With CFLs, figure 0.3 grams per watt give or take..... So the entire 12 pack of 23 watt CFLs (+ the bulbs you already have) could potentially grow a 1/4 LB.

I don't think that fan could do too much for you to be honest. I guess just try it out, and see what your temps are like.

I used a Dremel to make all the mods to my cabinets, and also used it to make the holes for the net pots in my DWC buckets.

I couldn't imaging having to cut all that out by hand.....
