Heat Problems

Ok, I have a 2x4x5 grow tent, 400 watt HPS (no cool tube; just a reflector), 2 6" inline fans, and another 6" inline fan / carbon filter combo. I've also got a 8,000 BTU portable a/c. I'm new to growing in tents and wanted to know what would be the best and most efficient way to set up my tent and be able to control the hot temps. It is summer time and the heat is crazy hot. Someone please help me.

A cooltube is definately the best way to go, but in your case you should be fine with a/c and all those fans. Fresh air intake is the most important, as long as you have fresh air circulating you should be fine. A cooltube is worth the investment though especially during these hot months.

a 1000 watt hps makes about 3500 btu.. so your 8000 btu a/c installed correctly should take care of everything no problem.. but like majek said cooltubes do wonders

Thanks majek & highway. Should I put the a/c inside the tent? The room I have the tent in doesn't get much cooler than 85 degrees during the day (3:00 til about 7:00) and around 75 at night.

whats up DF im in the high desert southern cali and it reaches up to 105 degrees.
4x4x7 homemade tent
two 4'" inline fans
1 fan
1 homemade co2 bag
batwing 600 hps
no ac
what i do for cool air i run my house ac for my home as usual for family and not plants and i also keep it on auto and one of does 4" inlines pulls the cold air thats in the room and into my tent and keeps my temps at 80 and im running co2...

i would run it inside your room and have an inline pulling it in..seems like space is an issue

Thanks for your input inked. I need all the advice I can get before I put my ladies in a hot box lol. I intend on growing a few autoflower strains and want to get the best results possible with what supplies I have.

im running in the day since i got a new job and i work grave yard shift so theres no time for me to attend to them since im tired when i get home..

If I put foil on my windows & some thick curtains, would that significantly reduce the heat in the room that my tent is in?

its ideal to do it in the summer as my neighbors do it. BUT, that does bring unwanted attention. i know for a fact my neighbors don't grow or do anything illegal. so when i saw a police officer going to there house i couldnt help but ask what happen.
apparently the officer was called out because people tend to foil there house up when doing "ILLEGAL" activity. example meth labs, grow rooms etc etc my neighbor took it right down and purchased a shade blind i believed thats the name.
but if your window is away from neighbors and st's i see no problem in doing it. just remember if a neighbor you lived next to for some time already and you never done this he might get a suspicious itch and give you unwanted attention..

In the grow tent would be better IMO.. definitely in flower too save room you could make a vent on your A/c cool output and vent it in your tent.. that A/c should keep the room as cold as it needs to be.. is the tent vented properly? also Id Black my windows out before foil.. if you want it cooler vent the A/c hot exhaust into a cool tube and vent it with a exhaust fan and vent as much of the heat out of the rooms.. Just my thoughts on keeping it cool..

even though 85 is a good temp so really you don't have anything to worry about with the heat..

even though just a thought about the a/c it will increase your humidity which could be a bad thing in flower ( when you want it cooler ) just have too make sure it doesn't get too high or mold will be a become a bigger problem.

they operate separately normally.. but you can try.. and if it wasn't in youre tent you would be dehumidifying the room not the tent.. you should be fine if you set up a cool tube and have good air flowing threw the tent

I had heat problems even after installing my AC in the room so i ended up putting my tent in a corner, buying a fairly large tarp and hanging it from the ceiling around my tent. It really helps with keeping the area around the tent cool
