heat question. switch from cfl to hps.

i have 4 plants going in a 4x2x2 with one 42 watt cfl(72degrees). i know when i start to use the hps ill have to have them in another place because of heat.. but my question is. what is the minimun amount of space for a hps and 2-4 plants? biggest concern is heat! so if i put a hps in my current grow box (4x2x2) how hot would it get? im not looking to actually put it in there. i just want to know how much the heat affects the area in which its placed.

I used to grow 4 plants in a Secret Jardin dr60. It was was 2x2x5. I used a 250 watt hps in a 6 inch cool tube and a 6 inch inline fan. During the summer keeping temps. in acceptable ranges often proved difficult.

so without the inline fan; forget about it?
because i cant afford a inline fan atm

I used a variation of this one. I think the most I ever spent on one was $40.

just get like a 6 inch honeywell fan and tape some ducting to it as an extraction fan. also you can add a small fan to your tent as an intake fan too and it would not cost much. i actually have like a clip on fan hanging out of one of the holes in my tent as an intake and a cheap 20 dollar duct fan for extraction works fairly well.

You're better off getting a true inline fan then a duct booster fan. Cost you a little more, but well worth it.

just get something like this http://www.amazon.com/VenTech-Inline-Exhaust-blower-Scrubber/dp/B005GJ7TFE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1384556326&sr=8-4&keywords=4+inch+inline+fan+combo unless you already have a filter? then just get some dryer hose ducting which is 4 inch from local hardware store.

i started with the 6 inch those filters only last about 6-12 months untill you replace it with a quality one.

yeah like mrblu said you can start with a cheap setup for under 100. got mine for 85.00 from ebay with shipping. 6inch fan, filter and ducting, fan and filter are good ducting was crap lots of pin holes in it.in a 3x3x7 tent 600 watt in a basement. works really well no smell and keeps temps down.
