Height vs density

So my 6 babies have been growing for over a month now and for a while I thought I was screwing up, but it's weird to find out that my growing methods have worked really nicely.

For the first month my plants just grew in height about a foot tall and had very few leaves, but at around the beginning of this month right after I topped four of them, they ALL started growing more stems up to wazoo. Stems with new healthy leaves everywhere in every single crevace. They're spunky little bastards.

I'm not sure, but it seems like growing your plants really short and bushy from the start doesn't make much of a difference because if you give them the strength and height in the beginning, they'll start to get really bushy and have the height too. The bigger the plants the more bud right?

So what are your opinions? Does it really make a big difference if they stretch a bit, just to mature more naturally a little later? If time is of no concern of course. I'll have some monstrous plants once I start flowering with tons of bud, assuming I get females.
