i use both of these. they are both around $10. ive tested all sorts of things and they seem right on. the one for liquid is for testing fish tanks and i use it to test the rain water and my nute mix. the probe one from home depot is for soil and give decent readings also. some people say there junk but i have had no problems with it yet. same here, on a budget too, so for now they work for me. you can spend upwards of a couple hundred dollars on a real good ph meter.

okay, I got another question, its about cfl's. I got 2 105w=400w cfl's on the way. i see that everyone keeps taliking about 400w hps. I was thinking that I could buy 2 more 105w=400w cfl's which would make me 420 actual watts with an equivalent of 1600 watts. I read somewhere to forget about the equivalent rating and focus on the actual watts being used. I dont want to deal with the heat of these other systems and I really want to go 100% cfl. Is this good or an overkill?

there is a lot of debate on this, its really hard to say what is best. if you have a small grow (like me, a cardboard box, 2'x2'x4') cfls are great, i mean, i cant put a 400watt hps light in that size box. if you have a full bedroom, say 12'x12', then the hps would be great. heres a couple links about lighting. hope these help.
