Hello all,
I'm new here so I would like to take this chance to say hello....Hello.
Looking forward to getting to know some of you and learning. If anyone with knowledge looks at this I will pose my first question. I'm going to be starting a plant indoors, just one, and I would like to know if my little sun lamp will be enough or if I should invest in a 400w HPS light?
Thanks:weed:

welcome to the forum. No you don't need a 400watt for one plant. Thats ok because it not a good idea to just plant one plant. MJ u
unlike most plants has male and female plants. If your one plant turns out to be male you will have wasted a couple months, if you had 3 you have a better chance of having at least one female. What kind of Sun Lamp are you referring to. I would recommend checking out Garden Knowm's new book "Marijuana Buds for less" Grow 8oz of bud for less than $100. he ends up using 8 42 watt cl's to grow 8 oz of bud from three plants, pictures for everyday. SOme on said they had it at Barnes & Noble, I checked, they have the new one in the gardening section. Ask them for it. $16.95, growing 8 oz for less than $100. priceless. VV

hey thanks man, the sun lamp is a 27 watt lamp. The idea of it is to give some sunlight in the winter but its pretty bright. Whats a cl?. I'm not too worried about it because I'm just messing around right now, but my plan is to get a good area set up and then start doing two or three at a time. I was just going to get some clones unless the one that I'm starting from seed right now is a female then I'll prolly just clone that. Thanks again.

CFL = Compact Florescent Light (The squiggly kind). If you are going to use these lights, be aware there are a few different temperatures (kelvin). During growth/veg. you want something at least 5,500k. During Flowering/Buds, you will want to change to a light which has a Kelvin rating of like 3,500k. For lumens calculate 3,000 per square foot.

Puff?

Thanks, Is there a way to rate kelvins if you dont happen to know your lights rating?

#1. Take a real close look at everything printed on the bulb.
#2. If you don't have the original packaging, cruise back to the store and really take a close look at everything printed.
#3. Words like 'full spectrum' tell you nothing.
#4. See the words 6,500 on the package? This is what to look for.
#5. Rated at 1,600 lumens - it takes 2 of these for 1 square foot.

thanks, all this knowledge is great. I've done outdoor lots but never indoor, I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot of nit-picky things to deal with....ahhh the joys of living in the city. :)

hey Cearid. looks like you're soaking up some knowledge. another thought is not to forget that it is a plant, and a weed, and grows pretty well in many different conditions. It needs light, water, and nutrients. it is not rocket science, though if you want to max your yeild or max your height or min your time to bud production etc. you can manipulate things to help you achieve that. But I just go back to it does not have to be complicated, and there is value in remembering the basics of growing a plant - albeit indoors. BTW - I'm using 9 42W CFLs for a small 2 x 3 space - 3 arrays of three together - there are those that say 2000 lumen per sq. ft. is minimum, 3000 is better. I've seen people claiming they have 10,000 lumens per sq. ft. my spot is running 23400 lumens in 6 sg ft. or 3900 lumens per sq ft. - so far seems to be working pretty well. guess we'll see in the long run how well.

whats your turn-around time?, cause one of the things I'm looking for is a mid-range yield with a quick turn around
