Help ! 4 week old weed plant looks stunted.

Hi guys,

I am growing a seed that was given to me by a friend. This my first grow. I do not know the strain yet. I just transplanted her into a bigger pot but the pig she was in before she became root bound. I untangled most of the roots but sons fell off in the process. She was dropping yesterday but she kinda looks like she is coming back. She is under a 60w LED grow light and the soil i was using was MiracleGrow but during her transplant I switched the soil to MiracleGrow Nature’s Care organic and natural mix. I water every 2-3 days always checking if the soil is dry using the finger test. I use bottled smart water when watering. I currently do not have a fan or a humidifier.

I can see a few issues. Some of the leaves on the bottom look like they could possibly be nute burn. That seems to be related to the usage of miracle gro but on a real note, I'm no pro. I'm still on my first grow but i made a lot of rookie mistakes like that and a lot of much more well informed people helped me through it.

So it also looks overwatered. Try lifting the pot to see how heavy it feels. You would be amazed how light they are when dry.

What do you mean you untangled the roots? And how much damage did that cause the root ball? There is a good chance it is also experiencing transplant shock.

How long do you leave your lights on? Also, take foil and wrap it around that cardboard to get a better light reflection for it.

It didn’t cause it much damage and they are on for 24/0. What would be a good soil

So that is a somewhat loaded question. I've discovered everyone has a different opinion on it and everyone is right in their own way.

I started with Nature's Magic potting soil. It has worm castings, perlite, and peat moss but no fertilizers that are improper or could burn the plants. This would be great for seedlings or if you want to feed your own nutes.

After that I swapped to Fox Farm Ocean Forest but it is what you would call a hot soil which means it is pre-fertilized with all the nutes needed specifically for cannabis. That is not to say you wouldn't eventually need to feed. But it also has work castings, bat guano, and the other listed items. This soil can burn your seedlings due to the fertilizer. They also have a soil called Happy Frog that is formulated for clones and seedlings. You can mix the 2 to get a great blend. Both are available online if you can't get them locally.

Now I'm on a soil of my own creation. I mixed 32 qts of seedling soil, 16 qts of perlite, 12 quarts of peat moss, and 12 quarts of vermiculite. I still need to add some worm castings and I want to throw in some bone and blood meal as way. I use the Fox Farm Trio for fertilizer.
 
A few pointers:
Check the pH of your 'smart water'...be sure it's not out of whack.
Scrap the tinfoil...it can cause hot spots. Line your box with white poster board, paint it white or line it with mylar.
When you're finished watering...pick the pot up and note how heavy it is...compare this weight to the next day and so on until you can tell the pot has lost some weight (water) then you know it's time to water again. Jamming your finger into the soil isn't helping your plant's roots.
When you repot in the future, go easy on your roots and be patient as it rebounds.

Thank you i just wasn’t sure how to get more light at the bottom leaves so i figure using aluminum foil would help with reflection

This says your wrong about OF.... Just sayin. And Auto's can be picky..

This thread was created to help those who seem to overthink the ease of use of this highly ammended bag soil. I see many growers both new and experienced seem to post “ issues “ when trying to run this medium. I am merely showing a simple no frills method of container / bag grows for autos...

UPDATE ! Lord the plant is turning purple now ! Is it phosphorus deficiency ? The leaves are also twisted ! I have not switched to hydrophobic lights yet. SHE will be 5 weeks old this Thursday and like SEVERELY STUNTED. Whats wrong with her ?

over fed and over watered. make sure your pots have good drainage, and let the medium dry out between waterings. the dark color and the hooked over leaf tips are signs of N toxicity. AND chronic overwatering makes it hard for the plant to absorb P, which would explain the purpling.....
lighten up on the nutes, let the pots get VERY light before you water again, then water till you get a little run off, and get rid of the run off, do not let them re-absorb it.

Thank you ! Should i just leave her alone until the pit dries ? She started looking like that when she was in her other container becoming root bound. I’ve been waiting for 4 days for her to recover from the first pot since her transplant into the red pot. Do you think she will need time to recover from both transplant and overwatering. I don’t feed her any nutes i guess she’s getting that from the soil. What can i do in the meantime ???

So I read that post and I don't see where it says i am wrong about ocean forest. It calls it a charged soil that would require little to no feeding. So I'm definitely no pro and not at all trying to argue but that thread seems to agree with me but in a more elongated sense.

I'm just trying to help this person out how other people helped me. Ocean Forest cut out the need for me to fertilize immediately so that i could fix the other issues I had going on at the time.

This soil can burn your seedlings due to the fertilizer.
 
Some strains cannot temper the hotter soil like FFOF , hence “ starter “ soil mixes.
Just put FFOF at base and let seedling thrive in a less Nuted mix like HF or any mild veg garden mix.
Seddlings require very little in beginning ( especially in solo cups ) ... the cotyledon leaves provide initial germination feeding and
“ young “ taproot needs unobstructed medium to setup. Most loose peat mixes , peat plugs , dipped rooters , coco cup or red solo needs only mild hydration to get started . Some even do a light Foliar spray feed to seedlings too.

FFOF always gets the “ its too hot “ routine .... it’s not , your plants just need to acclimate to it WITHOUT intervention.

I apologize for the misuse of too hot. I did not mean it in a way that would render the soil too much. I've discovered I love it for my plants in flower. I had just read in many areas that it could burn seedlings.

I was looking at your medium choice .... it is what the issue comes from. Simple things like ph of soil , ph buffering ( if any ) and miracle grows propensity to “ control “ moisture by holding on to it . Miracle grow can be overbearing on cannabis at times also due to way it feeds with “ every watering “. That’s why they claim long feeding with this soil. Even their brand of perlite is “ charged “ with Nutes.

I personally feel a different brand would have been less troublesome . Promix / Sunshine / Kellogg’s veg / Dr. Earth / Black Magic and a few others “ closer “ to vegetable garden mixes . Tried MG once .... hated it and dumped it. Inconsistent results .... plants would stall because it was too much on them. As far as purple and curl ( hey that rhymes) , it could be anything from genetics , plant trait , cool temps or even the fertilizer.
I am certain you will find a better medium as you grow more plants.

Setup is not that great due to this being my first grow i got this far but now I’m stuck. This light i am currently using is a 60w grow LED light i have it about 3 inches above the plant. The temp is usually 69F - 80F i usually kept in the 70’s. For the water I’ve been using bottled Smart water by glaceau ( being as it is Ph balanced ) I googled the Ph and it is 6.7. For the nutes I have NOT added any kind of nutes because i thought the soil already had them but i guess Miriclegrow is NOT THE BEST kind of soil for cannabis plants. She will be 5 weeks old this Thursday. Would I be better off just cloning the plant and starting over or can i revive her or is it too late ?

Cloning would be a miracle.
