HELP 5 day old seedling (coco/perlite)

Sorry for the spam in this forum. These seedlings are 4 and 5 days old, the coco was buffered with a VERY light dose of calmag
I started feeds late but they are now started and are a little weaker than they can be. They are under a 540W LED running again about 25% percent strength (this was much higher, around 60% for the first few days). The light is hanging about 48” above the canopy, running 16/8. Temperature is good with a max of 82 and a min of 71. Humidity usually around 55%, I add a plastic bottle to the top when it lowers. Feeds have all be pH’d to 6.1ish. I really don’t know what is going on. Please help.

Might want to test the ph of your medium. I also never use cal mag until right before flower. What’s the quantity of the air flow stagnant air can cause what looks to be burning on plants but not usually seedlings. Also make sure your water has zero chlorine common thing I see people not understand also only water when needed be careful not to splash water on the seedlings it could cause them to burn if the lights are to hott! Other then that idk what could be the issue unless the quality of your seeds are in question also make sure your pots are disinfected if they were used in a previous grow they could have mold spores or salt and nutrition build up

Air flow is alright, could be better, but I have the tent opened up pretty often. There is a little fan inside but nothing pushing lots of air around. I’ve been feeding with demineralized water bought from the store. Could is be from the medium being too damp? It hasn’t really dried out too much yet but I read that it’s good to keep pretty wet at all times. Can I test the pH of the medium based on the runoff?

If you are growing in coco then you I would suggest looking for a good guide to growing in coco like THIS. I personally believe that beginners should start in soil because it is more forgiving than hydroponics growing.

Hi thanks, I’ve actually just started reading this content a couple days ago. I found multiple errors I was making thanks to it. I’m actually following the nutrient schedule provided there. (Little bit weaker).
I just added 1 part coco from the seedlings solo cup to 4 parts still water, shook and checked the pH. It came out with a reading on 6.7-6.8 is this okay?

Even try a soiless grow like promix hp. Similar to coco but forgiving like soil.

Have you ever grown in a soiless medium?

That ph is pretty good I keep mine around 6.5ish but also I would let it dry up a bit over watering can cause root and stem rot I’ve had it happen. When germinating it’s important to keep moist but as soon as they start I like to give them one nice wetting then wait till the medium drys a little bit before I water again. I often use distilled water for general watering but when I use Nutes I just use and ph the well water..... best of luck

If you're going to run coco, you should shoot for a pH of 5.8......soil is something completely different. Stop putting domes on them...ever. And they don't have to be watered every day at this point, just be sure to keep the coco moist at all times and be sure to feed them every time you water...never use plain water. If it were me at your stage of the game (seedlings) I would be feeding with a 25% feed solution, every time you water. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, over the last two days I have been bringing the pH of the medium down, it is currently at 6.0-6.2 for all plants, I’m doing one more feed with the pH at 5.5 and then upping them to around 5.8 from there. I think a possible issue is that when I buffered the coco I only had enough cal-mag for half strength, should I be adding extra calmag to feeds because of this or possibly a cal-mag foliar spray? Or should I just focus on maintaining a 5.8 medium for now?

Yes, manage a 5.8 pH, don't foliar spray if it's not necessary, sit down, go over your nutrients and just be sure you're providing Ca and Mg daily and wait to see what your plants tell you. You'll be fine. Good luck.
