Help a First Timer out

Well hello everyone. I am about to embark on my first growing attempt so all of your help would be much appreciated. I have not attempted to grow marijuana since I was 19. I'm 28 now. Took a long break from smoking marijuana during my "i'm 21, lets go to the bar, get smashed and bang chicks" days. Older, wiser, and almost married now.

Here is some info. I live in the upper midwest of the good old US of A. I have ordered some white widows which should be arriving shortly. In the meantime, I am going to get the room (closet) setup which is downstairs. I will have a timer hooked up for the light. I will be attempting to grow about 5-6 plants. Will be for all personal and social use (i'm a cheap ass). I know how to germinate. After they germinate I will be putting them into these.

Here are my questions.

1. I keep them in the 3" starter pot for how long and how much light?

2. When do I transport them into the larger permanent pot and how much light do they need them?

3. Can you guys help me out in choosing the lighting that I need? I'm looking for a hanging fluorescent reflective light. Possibly point me to a link on home depot, walmart, or lowes website so I know what the heck I need to get.

4. Also, what kind of soil do I need. Again, i'll be heading over to walmart, lowes, home depot, menards, to get this stuff.

5. How much watering will they need during each phase?

Any other help or guidance would be great! Sorry for the stupid questions. Total newbie here.

problem is there are 20K opinions here and with your questions your gonna get a lot of em and it will just confuse you

like RIDDLE said , by reading and watching all the YOU TUBE video clips , you can see a lot of options and see what you can make work for you. I could easily tell you how I do things and what I use , but that might not work for you.

I wait until my plants are a little root bound until I transplant. I use 7(4ft) T5s in a standard bedroom closet for clones and small veg but I hope you're planning on getting HPS bulbs for the flowering phase. You'll be wasting your time w/CFLs as far as I'm concerned. The rest is too much to type... like they said, YOUTUBE it! Good Luck

Thanks. Well I have read a lot into it and I think i'm ready. I have a couple more questions I hope you all can answer quickly.

1.) Will a hanging fixture t8 with (2) 32 watt fluorescent bulbs work for vegging stage? It also has a reflector. It says it has 2850 lumens in which i'm assuming per bulb. I am going to try and grow six plants. Who knows how many will be female. So it will probably not be six plants but less. For flowering stage, I bought a 400w hps light from htg supply. I'm sure that will work correct? My closet space is 5ft 9in length by 2ft wide. I painted the inside of the closet doors white. Does it matter if I use black or white trash bags to put on the floor and around the light leak holes in the closet?

So right now i'm waiting for my seeds which should arrive in a couple days and putting plastic around all the light leak holes. I'll start a first time grow journal here shortly when I start.

yes hps is the way to go its the best light spectrum where are you ordering the seeds from?i used a 400wattfor my veggie stage too then switched it to a 1000 for flowering good luck

I bought 10 from buy dutch seeds and then I just bought another 5 white rinoes and white widows feminized from nirvana. I just realized that i'll have more then enough with 2 grow sessions to last me for personal use and smoking up my close friends as well so I should have just bought feminized from the start. Oh well. Lesson learned.

I planted the dutch seeds first as it's my first grow and I don't know how many males or females I will have. I saved the nirvana seeds for the second time around as they are all feminized. Figured i'll learn more my first time around so I don't completely fuckup my feminized ones.
