Keep it simplice. in souther portugal the light should be long, long days into night, so it shouldn't have a worry about there being long nights causing her to initiate flowering. So in other words, she stays a madre just fine.

He's right. My cousin is porteguese and visits his relatives every summer in portugal. He told me about a massive tree his friend has there, they grow all year long and you have to self induce budding. Auto flowers would be a problem in your case, but you likely dont have an autoflowering strain and you should be fine.

btw these plants are 15+ feet with a stalk like a palm tree. Good luck with your grow buddy.

I hate to disagree with ya'll but plants induce flowering by the change in the amount of daylight each day not just on the number of hours of sunlight. Plants started prior to the summer solstice will start to flower shortly afterwards, plants started after this date and before the winter solstice will mature enough to flower and then start almost immediately. I live in Costa Rica at 8degrees north and you cannot fool the sun. I have tried countless strains both indica and sativa both and you just can't change the outdoor biological clock of the plant without a constant and steady amount of daylight. Hope that this helps some and I wish you the best of luck.
