Help! Closet Grow

Ok so I have decided to venture down the path of my first grow. I have (2) walk in closets in my master bedroom that are roughly 4x6. In one I have a couple plants under (3) 55w CFL bulbs. this is great for Veg and although I think a MH would be better it is what it is. Now in the second closet is where I plan to do my flowering. I got carried away and went out and bought a 1000W HPS and didn't consider the ventilation issue and really don't want to cut holes in my ceiling. I realize that the light has to be vented or it will torch the plants. my question is this. Can I get away with ventilation w/o cutting holes? If I were to keep the door to the closet open during lights on and ran a scrubber---->Reflector----> inline fan----> across room under the window. Would that be sufficient? I will accept the fact that I will have to cut holes if it is my last resort but I would rather not if at all avoidable.

I had all of these same thoughts about 3 weeks ago... My end decision was to cut the hole to have the ventilation go to the attic. I used a plate for my "stencil" so when it comes time to repair the hole, I can go buy a cheap piece of drywall, reuse the stencil, and replace the hole. You can cut the hole with a dry wall saw, but I just used an exacto knife. I have experience in drywall work but this can literally be patched by anyone with half a brain. You got this! Also, by venting it into the attic and not my room I lowered the room temp by 5 degrees and my closet by 12. I am running a 600 w hps in a closet but you gotta remember that you will be running a hps as well once into flowering (right?).

Well the HPS I am going to use will be in the flowering room. I am a little confused on how to do this the right way. I am assuming that as long as the door isn't air tight and the closet is in a climate controlled environment that an intake would not be necessary. So my plan is to vent to the attic with 4" duct to the attic. Am I missing something? Also when I replace the drywall how do I keep the replacement piece in place while the mud dries? I am currently growing Ice Kush.

Closet grows are never easy, especially considering the heat these types of lights put out. Ventilation and heat reduction is essential. Two things...if you vent out of the closet, use flexible duct work to bring the exaust as close to the door as possible and "aim" the air out of the door. I would not suggest ever shutting your door...you don't want to run into an instance where you forget to open it! One mistake like that and you've turned everything green into toast. Also, with an open door, you will eventually run into issues with light reaching your plants when you don't want it too, this will cause a mirad of problems down the line (light tight keeps it right!).
i would suggest investing in a tent to put in the closet and aim the exaust, or get your tim allen on and start drilling holes.

Sweet man, I wish I had a second room for flowering!
I don't have an intake on my closet either. In the morning when i wake up, I just lift the plastic so it can take more air in through the cracks. I'm using a 12" fan that creates a shitton of exhaust and making for a vacuum effect which sucks the air right through the cracks. Even if I forget to crack it, temps only raise 2 degrees and they still seem to get enough air. Make sure to put a filter in the attic or on the fan to keep bugs from coming down. Also, the mud should hold it up there, but I use stick pins (like the sewing ones with a ball on the end) inserted through the original drywall into the new piece at a 45 deg angle to be sure. Ice Kush sounds sweet. Never smoked it though :/ On a mission to try them all! :bigjoint: Kush is my fav! Got a pog kush going right now. She's at 2.5 ft and just switched to 12/12 (tall closet =D).

I'm a cheap grower, and my solution to this was home depot for a black plastic paint roll, and the dollar store for velcro squares. Put the squares around the outside of the closet, put the other side on the plastic, and voila! $12 light tight easy access door cover!

Yeah man I am excited this is my first grow and I want to get it going and not worry about it so I can perfect my skills. A grow tent maybe a good option I am going to have to see if it is feasible. I just don't want to spend money for the sake of spending it. I have a 1000w light and am afraid a tent will be hard to maintain the required temps.

I had the same issues when it "finally" came to starting my first grow as well as first grow room...but I decided to go straight CFL, it not only cuts down on heat probs, but my electric bill as well, and no holes in my house...lol...Here's how I set my closet up, and my results after the first 21 days of my first grow....and good luck on ur closet...

Tent temps are also why I haven't invested in one. When I have some extra money I will probably get one to see how I like it. Gonna start with a cheap-o though until I see if i do like it. Jardin's are just too expensive to use as a trial!!!

I used an blade because I got rid of mine when I left construction. Definitely the best idea if you already have a hole saw... Otherwise it costs more than the piece of dw
