Help for a new grower =D

Hi all, first off just wanted to say its nice to be here! Iam new and have browsed these forums for a while for help/info and decided to sign up.

Iam making this thread in hopes of getting some help for growing some cannabis seeds. Iam a new grower, havnt ever grown anything bigger then a tall seedling and want to get into the world of growing more adeptly!

I know theres alot of guides out there but none of them seem to sum everything up Iam looking for. Being new I dont know lots of the stuff they are talking about so I wanted to see if someone would tell me there usual rundown for growing seedlings. Stuff like, what soil you use exactly, I know many use combos they make and I want to know like exact brand names so I can get an idea of what to use and what not to use. How often they water them, Ive read that over watering is a huge problem for newbies and then Ive read that once a seedling gets dry it dies instantly, so Iam wearing about that. How much water you use for a certain sized seedling.

Lighting schedules. Many have said 24 hours of light and some say a 18/6 so I want to know what some of you use so I know that its appropriate and actually works, not hear say. What kind of lights, Iam doing a small closet set up and was planning on buying Sun Systems 150w HPS system. Its inexpensive has good reviews and has all that I want/need, is that a good setup/appropriate for my closet? Lots of people also say temp and humidity matter alot, how would I manipulate that best in my closet, what should the specs be?

And just a general overview of what one does when planting new seeds. Ive gotten some to look REALLY good out of the soil but I must do something wrong after a while because they die just at the end of their seedling state, about 2 weeks in. So what are the exact steps you all take to make some good, healthy plants.

All info is much obliged and thanks all for taking the time to read this. =D

You are going to get A LOT of mixed opinions on some of your questions here. It seems you are looking for specific answers that only you can decide. Like what soil to use. That really is personal preference as there are many types that work well. There really is no one way to grow weed. You can get very good results using a vast amount of different techniques and products as I'm sure you already know.

I'm not going to try to answer all of your basic questions as I would strongly suggest you take your time and read through some of the sticky's in the sub-forums and use the forum search feature if you have a question about a particular subject or item. If you have done this already, do it again, like we all have and do regularly throughout the course of growing. I know it can be overwhelming with all the information here on the site, but by doing this you will will learn from other people's mistakes while at the same time gain valuable knowledge from some of the more experienced growers and it will save you time and money in the long run.

When you come across a good thread with abundant information you are looking for, write it down or copy it to a notepad for future reference.

Once you get started, and if and when you run into problems, then ask about that specific problem. There are lot's of good and knowledgeable people here willing to help, but the fact is most of them don't want to do your homework for you if you know what I mean.

You don't want to rush into this, and you don't want to necessarily take the advice from one person. It will only end up frustrating you and you will probably not achieve the results you're looking for anyway.

I hope you don't think I was coming off like a jerk because that wasn't my intention.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum ;)

Ive obviously done my homework, I know about most of what I need. Iam asking for brand names of stuff so people can tell me what they use. I think its that you growers are paramoid weird about others taking your ideas, because everyone gives me the same botched answer you do. If you guys dont want to tell me your "secrets" thats fine, I thought people here would be kind enough to help out someone in need of it. Its not hard to say, I use scotts or I use fire soil and to mix it with some sand and perlite. As most the guides I have seen and read dont say what soil is best to use in their opinion and thats what iam asking, YOUR OPINION!

It could have taken you two lines to say. "This soil, this humidity, this temp, this light, yes, no, yes." Thats probably all stuff you guys remember RIGHT off the top of your head but you act like Iam making guys go out there and research shit for me while I sit here and wait. Its not homework for you when you know it instantly, it is for me when I dont and cant find the appropriate info without searching through 100 guides from pseudo growers. Thanks anyways though I guess.

OK....I'm going for a pretty cheap grow this time.

400w mh/hps (not sure brand / was $150 on Amazon)
MG Potting soil (not time released)
Jacks Classic all purpose
Jacks Classic blossom booster
Fox farms big bloom (if needed)
Cal mag (WHEN needed)
Cheap $10 ph meter (mandatory)

better? ;)

My 2 cents: If you have a full closet to grow in, get something larger than a 150w HPS. You'll wish you did. I have a 600w and wish that I'd gone for the 1000w. Get the most light that your space can accommodate. Even with a 150w, you'll probably need some ventilation if it's in a closet, so if you're going to go through the trouble of exhausting hot air, it doesn't take that much more work to exhaust the hot air from a 600w than it would a 150w. Just a more powerful fan and possibly a little larger ducting. I use Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil, a quantum 600w ballast, some no name reflector, a digilux bulb, and a 3.4g air pots.

As DaBong mentioned, your best bet is to read through the sticky threads. There really is no one right way to do this, and you'll have to use trial and error to see what works best for you. Many different ways to skin this cat. That said, I would save my cash until I could afford some decent equipment, instead of getting the most inexpensive stuff on the market and then having to replace it all after you realize that you should have purchased better stuff from the get go. Also, keep it simple, and spend your money on environment instead of expensive nutes.

Good luck.
