HELP: i got my pc box setup, by the power supply dont work! (pict)

omfg this is so sucky.
i ordered a $20 power box supply thing and i pluggd it into a wire that goes form the box to the wall, any nothing. i also plugged in a different power suppl box any nothing! both boxes i tryed have built in fans, thats why i say it is doing nothing, cause the fans should be spinning :( HELP PLZ

EDIT: as you can see in the picture --
* The black wire goes from power box to the wall, the outlet works fine, tested it with my boombox hahah
*Wtf could it be???

Are you attempting to use the pc power supply to power something?

If so, you must take the main power connector (20 or 24 pin) and connect the GREEN wire to any black wire.. The green wire is the 'turn on' wire that a PC's motherboard sends as ground signal down. So you ground it out and it turns it on.

By the way, some power supplys ONLY work with a load on them.. Some must have a hard drive or something hooked up, but many work fine without

also the switch on back needs to be on the "I" and not the "O" =P

Thx on info, idk what 20 or 24 pin means. but do u mean literaly and green to and black wire? do they need to be connected to something?

20/24 pin is the main connector on the power supply, its the big plug that hooks up to the motherboard in a PC

And you just connect the only green wire to ANY black wire

And yea, just cut it and hook it up, or you could even use a paper clip to jump the connection ;)

i dont got the mother board, i gutted the pc out. i tohugth the supply box would do it itself :D

Edit: the back doesnt sy "o" or P. just 115v or 212V

Fans, sadly idk how to use it for lights. MY lights are currently in one of those power surge protector things. YOu know the ones we use for multiple plugs for our computers. the white ones, with red light.

im starting my own pc grow hopefully soon,
i dont think its worth using the power supply, you can use any dc adapter with 12v or 9v output and power your fans.
dont think you could use the powersupply to power your lights, lights run on 240v/110v AC current, PC Power supplys convert that AC current to DC current at 3, 5 & 12 volts.
your pc fans require a 12v DC current to run and they will work fine,
just run you lights normally, or if your feeling really brave, you could open your psu, cut and rewire the bottom IEC connecter (so it doesnt run through the circuit board) and this will keep the bottom iec connecter as your standard household current to power your lights, the top one can go through the board and output as a dc current to power your fans!

or you can throw away the psu and just use DC adapters.. and run normal wires for your lights.

This thread is old but you have the right idea about using a 12v adapter to power the fans. Just take the PSU out. It's not worth trying to run anything off it. Also it makes heat and takes up space and you're already very limited on space.
