i started my plants with just a 40w bub. today i put a 300w bub in their and i left for a few house and when i got home 3 of my 7 plants fell over and started to grow up sideways. i dont know what i am doing right now really with this but if anyone can give me some help plz tell me what i need to do to save my plants. my plants r about 1 week old

Hey - not exactly sure what is wrong without pics. By 300w you mean a 68w that is equivalent to 300w incandescent? If it's a 300w MH or HPS you may be exposing the little guys to too much heat. How far are your lights from your plants?

is it one of those twisty ones? If so you need to lower it right away. If it is a compact fourescent you should have it about 3 inches from your plants.

Can't see the pic but your problem is most likely the distance you have the bulb from you plants. Those lights emit very little heat so get them as close as possible.
For vegging I recommend 6500k CFLs and 2700k CFLs for flowering. The more lights the better.

6500k just refers to the spectrum of the bulb - these are the daylight ones that are more bluish and less orangy light. you can grow with the other spectrum just not as efficiently. Definately move your light to right over the plants.
On the box your light came in it prolly says the spectrum or it might say somethign like 'warm white' or 'daylight' or 'full spectrum'. warm = 2700, daylight = 6500 and full spectrum = 5500 for the most part.
