Help me my active carbon filter don't work well?

Why is it still smelling?

Can it be becouse i didn't have connected the hose with the fan correctly? or the carbon filter with the fan?

Please help me out! and yes its not blowing the air out of the filter, it sucks it through.

have you matched the CFM/M3 of your fan to your filter?

have you got negative pressure in your grow room?

all inline fans have a rating of how much air they can move in either

CFM - cubic feet per minute

or

m3/h - meters cubed per hour


this is also true of filters, they are rated accordingly .


you MUST match filter to fan .

this is what i use


  • LTI fan 250mm - 250m³
  • activated carbon filter 125mm - 250m³

So your cfm on your fan has to match the cfm rating of your filter? I did not know that. So why and how do people make their own diys?

if you need help fast then do a google search. Dont rely on other people for your own sake. If you have the money go get some ONA gel or get an ozone generator. Other than that you should go to walmart and get some activated carbon and make your own..

Some from experience taken from store boughts and such.
I fear many are winging it with a hope and a prayer.

I leaned awhile ago. if I feel I need 220 cfm,,, I go for the 440 with a speed controler on the blower. Then I go the next size up on the filter.
I've wasted a lot of money and time taking the cheap is good approach. No more.
Stepping up in size is relatively cheap when the alternative is a, "Oh shit! it's not enough! Scrap it out and try again".
I've enough "cheap & try its" to build 3 more grow rooms that don't work right. :-(:wall:

I have a 400cfm fan. You mean to tell me that i cant make my own and I have to get a certain one?

You can certainly make your own. :clap:
Just don't skimp on size / construction / etc. get an idea of what is needed for size and add some. Look on things like Ebay to see what is being offered and how they're made.
Just saying, by the time you gather all the materials, fastners, and carbon (good carbon is expensive) You'd probably spend near as much as a store bought is all.

I was thinking that a smaller one would work as good as a big one. Why would i need a big one? Is there something I am not getting here?

are you using a powered intake fan?


once a fan is attached to a carbon filter its effectiveness is reduce by 20% thus making your exhaust pull only 200m3/h.


for a 250mm fan it doesnt pull much air. The equivalent RVK inline fan of 250mm pulls around 1000m3/h.

in order to maintain negative pressure in your grow room your intake fan if powered should be 150m3/h or less due to the reduced effectiveness of your exhaust.


if you could fill in whats missing.

No intake / got some passive air intake but they arren't open at the moment.

The smell is coming out of the exhaust hose, don't know if it helps?

so you have your filter up high in your tent, connected to some ducting then into your fan and then ducted away from your grow room .


the only thing i can think of is your fan and filter are garbage .


my recommendation would be

RVK125A1 with a decent RHINO 125mm filter.

I hear ya there.lol I've done this with just about every aspect of my grow, from soil, to lights, to ventilation, etc.... Looking back, I wish I'd just started air-cooled 1000's, then went overkill with everything else. Yeah, it would've cost more, atm, but over time, would've cost less. Now, I have lots of old junk laying around, that I'll never use.lol Ahh well, live and learn, right? :wink:

I had a similar problem...I got an all-in-one package, so im assuming they matched the inline fan n carbon filter proportionally (filter weighs over 20 lbs seems like lol)

Turns out they gave me shitty ducting...just happened to look inside it and noticed alllllll kinds of leaks...stepped up the ductwork and worked just fine...also tossed on a couple dryer sheets over my filter for extra masking...made it smell right nice haha
