So my seedling popped out of the soil on March 21st. I then put 2 27 watt cfl light bulbs on them about 2 inches away from the plants. 2 days later it still has not progressed any so i put 2 more 27 watt lights on it. I dont know why it has not been growing. My only guesses would be heat since they r in an enclosed area with not so great ventilation and/or the cfl lights are at 5000k and not 6400k(i couldnt find any 6400k for some reason). If i could please get any help it would be appreciated. thanks

Sorry if pics r bad they are from my phone

5000k is good anyway. i use them and they always do the job. dirt grow may take a little time to prgress. if everything is right it will grow. give it time and dont panic.

pics are not showing....Have patience, provide proper temp, lighting, nutrients, air, ph and love. This is a process that lasts months and sometimes a few days is just not enough. I grow in 100% perlite and it takes a good 10 -14 days before I see any progress in this stage.

Damn that looks bad. Definitely heat stressed with the bent up edges and crinkled leaves. What do you have them in, it looks very compact. Roots may be strangled that maybe a problem too. Maybe ph but I doubt it would look that bad. I planted babys I think a day before you and they have three leave sets already. Like you, I used 2 6500 cfls and switched to 4 of them yesterday. Hope they pull through. Pull your lights back and get air circulating. Dont worry about stretching, you can repot it deeper. You can still make this grow successful.

thanks man. im actually using 4 5000k cfls and not the 6500k. i couldnt find any at walmart home depot or any where for some odd reason. i was originally guessing heat because its in a card board box right now while im waiting on my grow cab that a friends building for me. i dont think its the roots because i had them in a party cup since they sprouted on march 21st and i transplanted into a bigger pot on the 25th and there werent that many roots. with me being on a budget now since i had to just spend 300 bucks to fix my car i cant afford too much more stuff at the moment for like ventilation and fans. my cab should be ready by the 1st of april

I'll second the 'root strangulation theory'. Those pots are pretty good size, that soil looks really wet, and I see no perlite, for drainage. That's a receipe for disaster, if that soil doesn't dry out every week, or so.

Any idea what PH your water is? Aside from the heat issues, that'll contribute, as well, if it's too far off.

thanks. i dont know the ph because i dont have a ph meter at the moment. the soil is pretty wet as i watered them before i took the pics. i try to water them like every 2 days because i know that just because the soil on top gets dry that the soil underneath isnt necessarily dry. im waiting on some FFOF soil headed my way. right now i got it in this crappy miracle gro organics choice that i had laying in the basement. any more input would be appreciated. thanks to all of your help

Be sure you aren't over watering them, especially if the drainage of that soil isn't great. At this point, they should be able to go most of a week without watering, once you put enough in them to produce some runoff. I've found that my seedlings will reach a spot where they seem to be stalled - it appears to be when they're working on root growth, because they will suddenly take off again and grow like crazy in a matter of a few days. Be careful not to keep your CFLs too close if you don't have good ventilation, as the heat can stress them easier. Three or four inches is not terrible until they get bigger and can handle more heat. If they stretch too bad you can bury some stem when you up pot them next time. -Mandi

thanks for the advice. i originally had 4 lights on them but since i figured it was getting too hot i took 2 away for now until it gets a little bigger. with me being low on money and low on space i really dont kow what to grow in where it can be semi stealthy in my closet. il figure it out though. thanks for your help. if anyone has anything else to add im all ears, well eyes. thanks
