Help me understand conversion bulbs

Been using this 600 watt mh conversion bulb for the past couple weeks and just yesterday I realized it's only 45k lumens. I wonder if this is why my plants haven't grown/stretched much?? Mind you, it's my first grow.

Anyway, I just switched it out with a 600 hps and going to finish veg with this. It has like 90k lumens.

Can anyway shed some light (lol) on conversion bulbs? Could this be the reason my plants haven't grown as much as I'd hope they would have? I have a digital ballast so it can handle both mh and hps.

Thanks!

Lumens is a measurement for how humans see light,,,,not plants

less from a MH is normal because they have more in the blue spectrum, some growers take advantage of this to keep the plants smaller and internodes tighter

HPS has more red light so it induces more stretch

It is all about how you want em to grow

I know that a lot of growers like to switch bulbs, MH for veg and HPS for flower. Me, I use a HPS all the time. I just dont see the need for it. Maybe I'm wrong but my plants seem to do just fine under HPS all the way. So if your plants seem to be doing better under the HPS, just use HPS. Never used a conversion bulb but if your ballast is both MH an HPS could you not have just used a regular MH bulb??

Yep, could have but I didn't know any better when I bought it from the hydro store. I just asked for a 600w mh and that's what he gave me.

Btw I notice a huge difference in light color between the two. How do you deal with the color of the hps on your eyes? Wear special glasses?

Haha i enjoy the color of the hps spectrum if it bothers u wear sun glasses and if ur only growing one or two plants get a 150 or 250 hps
