the only deficiency i know that curls UP is phosphorous during flowering (which i read more and thats wrong, magnesium does it too...at least). Yellows from the out inwards. Leaves "may or may not" fall off. I'm not veteran though...don't listen to me for actually modding your plants, i'd feel bad if i steered you wrong.

"When your plants are deficient in phosphorus, this can overall reduce the size of your plants. Not enough causes slow growth and causes the plant to become weak, to little amount of Phosphorus causes slow growths in leaves that may or may not drop off. The edges all around the leaves or half of the leaves can be brownish and work its way inwards a bit causing the part of the leaves to curl up in the air a bit. Fan leaves will show dark greenish/purplish and yellowish tones along with a dullish blue color to them. Sometimes the stems can be red, along with red petioles that can happen when having a Phosphorus deficiency. This isn’t a sure sure sign of you having one though, but can be a sign. Some strains just show the red petioles and stems from its genes.
So pretty much the overall dark green color with a purple, red, or blue tint to the fan leaves is a good sign of a Phosphorus deficiency. Having Cold weather (below 50F/10C) can make phosphorous absorption very troublesome for plants."

what if you have multiple deficiencies?

"Magnesium is one of the easiest deficiencies to tell… the green veins along with the yellowness of the entire surrounding leave is a dead giveaway, but sometimes that’s not always the case here. In case you have one of those where it doesn’t show the green veins, sometimes leaf tips and edges may discolor and curl upward. The growing tips can turn lime green when the deficiency progresses to the top of the plant. The edges will feel like dry and crispy and usually affects the lower leaves in younger plants, then will affect the middle to upper half when it gets older, but It can also happen on older leaves as well. The deficiency will start at the tip then will take over the entire outer left and right sides of the leaves. The inner part will be yellow and or brownish in color, followed by leaves falling without withering. The tips can also twist and turn as well as curving upwards as if you curl your tongues."

Now that you have pics here, and i'm making it look like people are talking on here, hopefully you'll get one of these veterans to help you out. Do you have a picture of a completely fallen off leaf? How bad is the leaf getting before it falls off?

the picture you have supplied looks exactly like the leaves on my plants. is this too much mg or too little. This is my first grow. No-one else is giving me advice and i need to fix the problem. i have run a ph test and the color it as gone says that my soil is too acidic 5.0. what shall i do please advice THANKS:wall:

heres where i can't help. I have no idea how to change the PH of soil. I grow hydro because i can wrap my head around it better (and i'm impatient). i believe you should jack your ph up to about 6.5. If you have a PH of 5, that is nasty. You will have more than magnesium deficiency if you don't change that PH. If the PH isn't right, the nutrient could get locked out. MANY nutrients get locked out below 6 in soil. i'll try and help you find out howto adjust ph in soil. I wonder why no one else is posting here...

Ok, so, i didnt really get the best answer ever, but i've got something for you. You adjust the PH by adjusting the water you water your plants with. Using ph down or up to get the ph of the water what you want, then you water. The only thing is, i don't know to what extent you need to adjust your PH. Also, if your soil is reading say, 5.5, it's probably 5.3-5.2. if it were 7, it would be slightly higher than usual.

so, get you some ph up, and adjust your water accordingly. Make sure you adjust slowly so your ph doesn't go crazy. Ph is touchy as balls. I'd check daily using runoff water from your pot or however you are checking your PH to monitor it's change all the way till 6.5-7. you want the color more green than yellow. Don't be too quick, plants don't like being above 7.

This is from the bible:

Nitrogen is the most common nutrient deficiency. The symptoms include slow growth. Lower leaves cannot produce chlorophyll and become yellow between the veins while the veins remain green. Yellowing progresses through the entire leaf, eventually causing it to die and drop off. Stems and the leaves' undersides may turn reddish-purple, but this can also be a sign of a phosphorus deficiency. Nitrogen is very mobile, and it dissipates into the environment quickly. It must be added regularly to sustain fast-growing gardens.

Progression of deficiency symptoms at a glance:
Older leaves yellow between the veins
More and more leaves yellow. Severely affected leaves drop.
Leaves might develop reddish-purple stems and veins on the undersides.
Progressively younger leaves develop interveinal chlorosis.
All foliage yellows and the leaf drop is severe.

It could be Mg as well or maybe Zn. It's likely you have multiple deficiencies. Hopefully someone in the know will chime in here. Good luck bro.

i think DWC is the way to go. I like just making sure numbers are ok. No soil swaping. No weird ph monitoring of the soil, and i've read you entirely don't need a ppm meter for soil. I read something sometime today about a test you can run to monitor health using a ppm meter with soil grows. I'm incapable of finding it right now:joint::shock:, much better than my roommate, who's :spew:. I guess you can just follow the recipe and you don't need to worry about ppm's as much. Ph is crucial though. i tried to find what ppm soil is supposed to be, no luck.
