my friend jazz is planning on growing in a hydro. he cant seem to find any gardening stores near him, and the hardware stores do not sell what he needs. he is looking for the rocks use in a hydro system and rockwool, where might he find this?

Try ebay. I'm sure you can use money orders if you haven't got a credit card. Most websites accept money orders too. It's all money.

No problem... hopefully you'll want to stick around where there are plenty of people with experience to help you should you run into any difficulties in your grow.

he will, run into difficulties that is ;]
i might just do that

edit -

Is there something other than rockwool or a medium as such that may be found around the house that he may use in place of it for the first time seeing as it will take a while to get it via order.?

Yes. there are lots of things you could grow in... but really these are for the more experienced growers to try. As a beginner you will most likely kill your plants. I've grown in gravel before... i just shovelled some out of my garden. You have to use a low ph, and be aware of how much nutrients you are giving to your plants. Also how much water. There are a lot more variables to consider.

Best to wait for the rockwool.

I'm a somewhat seasoned grower...going for second hydro....DWC.... Could ya use aquarium gravel, after bleaching/sterilising ??? I wanna start in dirt (booo) then transp into gravel??? with a wick, into a DWC....possible? feasible??? just want to try and beat rockwool...................is it possible?

Not sure why you'd want to start in dirt and then transplant to hydro but i use rapid rooters (i cut them in half) rather than rockwool:
Rapid Rooter Replacement Plugs - 50 cnt. | Growing Mediums

and i put my germinated seed into half a rapid rooter. I line 6" net pots with coco-tech liners and fill with hydroton. i put the rapid rooter/seed on top of that and cover with a layer of hydroton and put the coco-tech lid on and right into the system they go!
