mh lighting can i use a mh bulb in a hps reflector because the screw in ends look the same

I bet your fingers fit in the plug as well, leave the power on so you can feel it 
on a more serious note, no, not if it is`t made for it, to my knowledge's it cant be done with a "Normal" old magnetic ballast, only with the newer digital once, some of them is made to run both MH and HPS and some even run both 250/400/600/1000W
need more info, what is the name of the ballast etc. try to google it and see what you can come up with

got no ballast its an old one and its got a ballest built in its about 20kg lol

Its about the ballast - not the reflector. Yes you can use it in a hood made for HPS, you may need to get a special HPS bulb that works in a magnetic ballast or you'll have to get an entirely different ballast.

im just going to use cfls for vegging then hps for flowering and it will keep the eletric bill down lol
