Help +rep just got inline fans

Hello I just got a 6'' and a 8'' inline fan for $195,did I get ripped off

I have no clue about venting

How often should I pull air out

Is hanging the best way to reduce noice

Can I make a filter instead of buying one
for air coming in and out

Will A 6'' and a 8'' inlinefan cool 2 400 watters

if you just need fresh air then exchanging the air every 5 minutes is enough. if you need air to cool then its whatever air exchange gives you the right temps - 5 complete air exchanges per minute is not unusual.

it helps but the air itself makes a lot of noise. search web for "duct muffler" if sound is critical.

you only need a filter for the outgoing air. search d-i-y forum and you'll find lots of ways to build a filter

yes, assuming typical cfm values, and grow area that's not too small.

a typical ventilation set up would be to mount a filter on the ceiling and go:

filter-->fan 1 --> duct-->aircooled light 1-->duct-->aircooled light 2-->duct-->outlet

then take fan 2 and use as an outlet for the room air and add a passive intake (plain hole) at the bottom across from the outlets.

Well, more important than the SIZE of your fans is how many CFM (cubic feet per minute) those fans are pulling.

I got a very good, high quality 6'' inline fan for $175, so if they are well made, than no, you did NOT get ripped off.

However if someone sold you those Lowes/Homedepot inline fans (made by Suncourt I believe) then yes, you may have been ripped off, they are like $30 and $40 respectively

do your fans have an enclosed, sturdy looking housing, or do they just look like big computer fans stuck in a tube?

Either way, they WILL get the job done, and should be adquate to cool two 400 watters in your space

You can easily make a DIY charcoal filter, and I'd recommend it

they were a 4'' and a 6'' my bad..they look like those voretch fans. without any vent the room would go to 100 degrees.....Why do I need a carbom filter for smell only

??not sure what your question is - the only thing a carbon filter does is remove smell from the air. it doesn't do any good to filter incoming air.

Should I filter incoming air,the guy at the hydroshop tried to sell me a incoming air filter

Here's the deal,My GF's pregant so Im getting kicked out of my grow room,Into a outside closet that gets to hot,im bROKE,and trying to vent as cheap as possible , oh I already gave rep to all,

not true AT ALL. carbon filters do a great job of regulating moisture (keeping rh down during flowering) and actually eliminating dust, mites of all kinds and mold spores, and cleaning the air in general

However you do NOT need to filter incoming air, simply having the scrubber itself over your fan intake will do the job. passive intake is fine

if they are vortex fans then you got a good deal. what are the CFM ratings?

Im at work so I dont no the cfm..whats a scrubber type of filter.........Sorry for all the questions,her moms coming to visit soon so i have to get everthing out there, I have 9 flowering right now I have to move

ah flame war - carbon filters do nothing for relative humidity - if they did they'd be soaking wet after one humid day. nonsense. and the prefilter included with a purchased carbon filter is what removes dust and all macroscopic material. a carbon filter might catch mold spores that pass the first filter but that would be by chance as much as anything. carbon filters are for odor only.

its air for gods sake, you don't have to filter it coming in unless you live next to a chemical plant and then you have bigger problems.

for cooling, try ghetto a/c - rotate a bunch of two liter soda bottles between your freezer and grow room. place the frozen bottles in front of a fan - can't testify personally but lots of people have used it on this forum.

how big is the room you got moved to? those 6" and 8" fans, will do a decent job if the CFM is average. It all depends on your CFM of the fans and the size of your room.
