please please please help. I took a bunch of cutting from a mother plants about 4 days ago. i cut the large leaves in half, slightly shaved the bottom of each stem , dipped it into rooting gel, put it in a rockwool and put them in the humidity dome. Ive now had them in the humidity dome for the last 4 days. I just started to notice that in a lot of the plants the edges are becmoing yellow. Is this normal? WHAT DO I DO.?
pls pls help.
ps. they are under 20 hours of light a day, 1000w MH.
Just to verify here: you took clones by cutting healthy branches that were at least 4 inches long, with at least three sets of leaves? When you say cut the leaves you mean as in like horizontally cut the fingers of those leaves, correct?
When cloning I sometimes clip the tips of the fingers on larger leaves, but I wouldn't cut any leaves in half. The idea is just to hinder the growth of those leaves in order to facilitate rooting. Cuttings need enough foliage in order to have the energy and nutrients to grow roots. (No foliage = no roots)
A 1000w has got to be over-kill. Fluorescent lighting (CFLS, T5 fixtures) is much more appropriate, at least until roots have formed and they've been transplanted. If that light is too close it will certainly fry them.
Otherwise, even with all conditions near optimum it isn't too unusual for a couple leaves on a cutting to go chlorotic and die. The nutrients it had stored are going to support root growth and eventually new foliage development, so keep your eye on those things. There are supplements available to help cuttings retain their vigor, improve health and hasten rooting. I use Liquid Karma (.1 -.1 -.5) which is good for all stages of growth and will provide some fertilizer for cuttings once they start to establish. Then, Superthrive which contains synthetic plant hormones and vitamins that will stimulate rooting (if not anything else).
