HPS grows fast and leggy in veg. MH will give you shorter, more compact plants.
IMO, shorter and more compact is better.

many growers do mh in veg and hps in flower. but many growers will do a whole grow in hps. i have as well. shorter and compact is always better as althor said because as the plants flower out they tend to get top heavy so if you have sturdier stems they'll hold up better.

From what ive always been told mh (cool spectrum lighting) provides tighter internodal spacing, the tighter your nodes, the higher the yield when it comes time to flower. The reddish hue provided by an hps imitates what the sun does when mj plants would naturally flower outdoors.

I personally use an hps just because its all i have, and have had no issues with yield or any funky problems people may claim happen with an hps in veg. I do use 3 cool cfl's just even out the light spectrum a tad tho.

Jimmy,
I agree, MH for veg. However: If you desire stretch for training purposes...like filling a scrog screen, then veg with HPS.

MH is generally more productive to veg with. However, I quit using my MH bulbs due to the extra heat they throw off. BigSteve.

They also have bulbs that are full spectrum for an HPS setup. They work really well but they cost a few dollars.
