Help with germination!

I have recently decided to grow my own and have built a nice grow box, purchased the nutes and items required for a good grow. I got some seeds from a reputable source, Nirvana, and started germinating a few seeds about 2 days ago. I used the paper towel method and placed the dampened paper towels and seeds inside a small cleaned butter dish. With the top lightly covering it, I wrapped the bowl in a towel so that it was completely covered and put it in my closet. I checked the seeds this morning and they havent even shown signs of cracking. I have watched several videos on youtube and read a lot of material on germinating. It does not seems to be rocket science. What do you think is wrong? One thing i have not found is a definitive answer on how long it takes for seeds to crack. Any help is appreciated.

When mine didn't crack after a couple of days I put the paper towel inside of a ziplock sandwich bag, filled it with air and sealed it 3/4 of the way then placed it on a heating pad on low in a dark place. The ziplock bag acts as a mini greenhouse allowing the humidity to rise. Next day they cracked. Depending on where you live and/or what the ambiant temperature is where you are germing a heating pad may or may not be needed.

This is what has always worked for me with stubborn seeds...your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the quick replies..I am so jacked about growing my own weed you dont even know...well you most likely do. Anyway, I guess I just need to be patient. Its really hard though because all of the pretty ladies I see growing already and I want them to be mine! I look forward to starting a grow log since this is my first time ever attempting a grow. I will keep it posted for sure when these fem'ed seeds crack. The average temp is about 70 degrees inside, that should be ok based on what I have read, correct?

Yeah 70 room temp is fine the problem I find when I used to put the wet paper towel on a china plate or what have you is that the plate or vessel would remain cold making the wet paper towel cold as well. So even though the ambient room temperature is good the actual temp of the seeds would be much lower. However being patient is the key for sure, as Pilgrim has said I'd wait one more day to see if anything happens before changing something. It's very hard for me to be patient as well but I know if I don't something bad could happen...

Ahhhhhhhhhh...tying my hands down. Thanks again for the words. Moved to a new area, have no connections and have no interest in breaking cover...lol. Patience will have to be my new mantra. Once I get this ship sailing the seas will be smooooth again and this Captain will be a happy man. Looking forward to this new adventure and sharing it with this group. If I havent seen a change by tomorrow I will definitely add a little warmth. Hypothermia is something that I did not consider.

Alrighty then! I placed a second seed into the paper towels and it cracked and started a tap root. The first still is not showing signs of cracking, so I took it and the seed that cracked and placed them into moist soil under 18/6 light cycle. I am using 6 23w cfl's 6500k with reflectors over the two plants. Temp inside my cabinet seems to be steady at 83 degrees f and humidity is about 45%. I have two 110v 120mm fans, one each for intake/exhaust that move a lot of air. My grow box is 26" tall 18" deep and 24" wide. I also havev a 10" fan blowing inside to keep air moving also. Let the games begin. I am hoping that the stubborn seed will decide that its time to crack and if not then my cooperative girl will get all of the attention she deserves. I think it is time to start a grow journal. My wife is freaking out a bit about me posting pictures or even posting at all. She is cool with the grow but has a fear of getting into trouble..lol. Once I figure out a way past this, I will get some pics up of my set up. I am pretty proud of it, and used much of the information from this site to make it as close to perfect as I can. Wish me luck and for the future happy smoking.
