Help with it all :) please

Hey Everyone. Well for a newbie the internet can make things really hard to decide what to do :(. I have 4 clones coming in the next week or 2 and I have nothing to start my first indoor grow. I have a $500 budget to get everything I need. Figure I will get a 4x4 tent, thought about HID setup for a light? 600w ? Then I started looking at LED’s then all of a sudden I have 20 tabs opened on my browser trying to figure it all out. You guys have done this all before so I thought i would ask for your help please. I know this is a big request, I have done a lot of reading and also checked out a bunch of journals. I really don’t want to screw this one up. The plants I will be growing are 2 Bubba Kush and 2 Blueberry. Again I have nothing at all except $500 to make this happen. Oh and it’s $500 Canadian as I live in Ontario :(.
Thanks in advance for all your help and I plan to do an extensive journal on this grow so we can all help other newbies out in the future.

You will need at a basic level:

- Tent
- Light
- Exhaust fan (and ducting, along with a variable switch)
- Carbon filter
- Nutrients
- pH pen/meter (best to get calibration solution too)
- pH Up/Down
- Hygrometer (for the tent)
- Pots
- Medium
- A good understanding of the temperature/humidity of the room the tent will be in
- A possible way to exhaust hot air from the tent to either outside, or a different room than the tent is in

Will you be using tap water? If no, buy a bottle of calmag.

I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but that's pretty much the most basic indoor setup using a tent that comes to mind.

I only use HID lights (several of them, ranging from 400W to 1000W). A 600W does well in a 4x4' tent, but if you can keep the room cool enough, a 1000W works even better. They put off an awful lot of heat though so you must be able to vent out a lot of hot air somewhere other than the room the tent is in. That's going to be true for almost all lighting systems, but HID puts out the most heat.

For lighting i would say HLG qb120 or 132 in v1, could do v1 and a driver plus wire and hangers for about 200$ maybe think 3x3 room for that price?

Gotcha. I guess my biggestworry is what medium to use? Don’t want to mess this first time grow up ;) I can vent hot air outside. I am doing the grow in my dry basement.
Maybe what I can do is get a list of what I figure I should buy and let you all edit it to make it right? With manufacturers and products.

If I were you, I'd take more time to research before you plant anything. Although it's only a plant, there is a lot to learn. A great place to begin research is https://growweedeasy.com

Throwing out a bunch of products and asking us to choose for you is going to cause an opinionated nightmare of a thread.

Take a look through the "Grow Journals" section. There's an entire myriad of different grow setups in there, going back more than a decade.

It's *you* who has to be comfortable with your purchase decisions. It's also you who has to deal with the fallout of poor purchasing decisions. That's part of the learning curve here.

I'm not trying to off-put you here, I just recommend highly performing an exhaustive research period. So many don't and just jump right in, and promptly fail. Having a very good baseline understanding of the whole picture will ensure that you don't unnecessarily waste time and money, and will make you a better grower before you even start.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. With all that’s going on out there, I have a lot of time to do my research :). I will do just that and chime in if I have questions :)

Absolutely, we're here to help!

That sometimes includes recommending a new grower hold off starting until they can wrap their head around some of the fundamentals.

...and yes, this quarantine provides quite the opportunity to sit down and read a whole bunch :)

A potential major stumbling block is going to be actually sourcing all the required components in such a small time frame(clones coming in 1-2 weeks). Speaking from experience as a fellow new grower in Ontario, its been a hassle getting some equipment and neuts. Local stores are running low or just out, amazon is middle of May delivery for many items and even the Ontario online stores are out on some stock or take over a week to ship!
Then to add extra BS, Homedepot/Canadian Tire/Rona/Home hardware are closed except for curbside pickup.

Not trying to sound overly negative, just extra to think about planning this all out.

Ya I hear ya. Well so far some good news.. One of our local stores actually has a partner that makes Organic so I am just waiting to find out all whats in it and how much. They do have most of the equipment etc. but they are a bit pricey.. I may be forced to get some stuff online (tent, lights, fans) and buy all my nutes, organic, etc. local. We shall see. Have been doing a ton of reading online as well and getting my list together for everything. Will post soon to see if I missed anything.

Hey everyone. Got my tent (4x4), going with organic soil, now just gotta figure out what light to use. Been searching online and found the Bestva 2000 DC led light? Was thinking one of them or maybe 2 of the Tolys 1000w LEDs? Or I would live to build my own but I don’t know yet if I can build one for around a 300 budget. Just waiting to get some answers. I know the lights I am looking at are on the cheaper side but this is my first time grow and in the end I would like to eventually build my own and grow better and better :).

Well. HLG has 4 packs of v1 qb132 boards that do not require heat sinks for $99. You would need 2 packs to do a 4x4. They happen to have 3500k which is the all around best frequency light for veg and flower. Use the Meanwell LRS350-36a driver wired in parallel to power a total of 4 boards.
at about $41. on Amazon.
So that's 8 boards for about 600 watts of full spectrum white light for less than $300 ,boards and drivers. Have no experience with light mentioned but HLG is well known on these msg boards and has an excelent reputation.
The only caveat is that you will have to build a frame out of some angle iron and wire with 18 gage solid core wire in parallel. I make my connections using 2 prong plugs from Home Depot. Lot's of imfo on the forum on building these lights

Awesome. Well I guess it is time to do some digging and finding parts to order :). If you guys have some threads on your builds, please post them here for me if don’t mind ;)

Hey everyone. Well got my clones today. Bubba Kush for all 4. All I have right now are a couple of LED lights that I put them under until I figure out what light to build or buy. They are going into a 4x4 tent and I will be up potting probably tomorrow or Monday. Will be growing in organic. Here are a couple pics for you guys. I was hoping to cut them to maybe manifold them?
