I am a chief, not a smoker but thought if I posted in the alt. thread that it might not get answered.
I am looking for a grow light to grow my hydro cooking herbs. I have tried low powered CFL but could not get longer than about 2 months from them. My grow area is about 3ft X 3ft with about 15 plants. What would be the best lamp for a kitchen? I do want it to be very very hot or extremely bright? I'm looking into a all in one system with ballast inside the hood.

250w MH will work, but a 400w MH will cover the 3 x 3 area more thoroughly

Thanks, I guess If I want with a 400w then I could just move it out into the garage. I wonder if that would be too bright for a kitchen?
If it wasn't in a hood it would be awfully bright, but most the light should be directed down onto the garden.

It actually would look pretty cool having a fully lit herb garden in a kitchen IMHO

While I would never grow my marijuana with CFL's, I would definitely grow my herbs that way. Actually, I STILL wouldn't use CFL's, but floro's would be nice. In a kitchen I think it would look really nice if you could make it work with T5 HO's or T12's or something. Herbs don't need super power and the light will look cool as beans in a kitchen without heat problems and being "too bright".

Would the T5's have to be 1-2 inches from the top of the plants or could the be 12''+ like the HIDs?
So many options, the Hydrofarm and Sun Systems websites have so many dang lights!

T5 HO's are really quite powerful and for most herbs they wouldn't have to ride THAT low, but the lower the better.
