I have LST outdoors for many a season to hide plants out of peoples line of sight. Country folks just say "tie em over". You would have to walk right up on them to spot them. The tops of the buds are only 3 feet off the ground. I learned how to do it from Robert Clarke's Marijuana Botany chapter on trellising. (IMO is the greatest book ever written on cannabis) Let the plant grow naturally UNPRUNED until it reaches at least 18 inches tall. I would wrap a fish hook in black electrical tape or duct tape so it doesn't cut into the branch and hook the stalk 2 nodes down from the top. With clear fishing line I would attach it to a stake driven into the ground making sure the top of the plant points either directly north or south for maximum sun exposure. Bend it to half its height and secure it there. Within an hour or two the plant changes its orientation towards the sun. This technique exposes the entire plant to the sun and dramatically increases yield. You may (or may not) have to trim a few fan leaves so all the budding sites get direct sunlight. If my top got too tall during the veg cycle I would repeat the process. Can you LST a plant that hasn't been topped? I have a plant that is round and bushy and the branches are pretty long reaching almost even with the top cola. I feel like if i tie down those long arm branches maybe more would grow?
I wasn't originally planning on topping, and i was actually hoping to flip 12/12 today.
Thanks for any input..
One summer long ago I did the LST technique on a gifted 3 inch clone of Mexican. I planted her in a hole (Aug. 1st at 36.5 deg N. latitude) with quality amendments and fed her guano and kelp teas. I even kept the perimeter of the hole well saturated as water was no problem this was my backyard. The little clone was in full sun and went beast. It's roots went far and beyond the hole i had dug because i had kept the perimeter of the hole nice and moist through the hot summer. Chopped Oct 28th and after it was all said and done had 9 zips of dried manicured bud.
