hey guys, i am moving out in september and am looking to set up my first small grow. Not much room, looking for a quality one or 2 plant closet grow as cheap as possible. I will be starting in september, but Ill need your help to get started, which lights and exhaust systems are best, cheapest ways to get things done. Just growing for some nice personal chronic to call my own, nothing more. I am using seeds called Sweet Dreams for this grow.

That light will sufice nicely for vegging, but if you want to go to flower mode you would be hard off with that light.

For the same price did you know you can actually get a 400 watt HPS light.

heres the link: I recomend you get it, and it will also be great for vegging.

High Tech Garden Supply

Then you'll be in the ballpark.

Go to the GrowFAQ section, everything you need to know is there. The better plan you have the less chance you run of wasting your time and yielding nothing.
For light you should definitely be looking at CFL's.....

IMO CFL's are worthless for anything even vegging, yes they can suffice for vegging with like 2 per plant, But why are you telling him to go that direction, when he mentioned a T-5 setup which is ten time better than CFLs.

Get the 400 I linked too, you will never regret it, HPS is what the big boys play with, not CFL's

Goddess -
Absolutely the big boys use HPS. T5's are amazing fluoros. And I have to say you have a truely first class setup (one of my favs I have seen so far).
It sounds to me like this guy is looking to just get a little experience growing, see if/what he can yield, and hopefully at the end of the day have a little personal smoke to celebrate with. Sure he mentioned T5's but then said he doesn't know much about it. For us "hobbyiest" tube fluoros can be more difficult to integrate into a small cabinet.
CFL's can produce some beautiful buds. For us little guys they offer the most flexiblity with setup and the biggest bang for our $$ in terms of watts and lumens. Plus they are one of the safest type of lights with virtually no maintance. They can be used from day 1 to your first celebratory spliff of the yield.
What you do and what this guy is looking to accomplish are completely different things. Its like Crown Royal giving advice to a moonshiner. We may not do it the way you do but I guarantee you I get just as excited about my small CFL produced buds as you do in your jungle.
Think about your first ever grow. Speaking for myself, I do this because it is fun. I certainly do not look at this as a career path (hahaha).
Anyway thats my two cents, I have been pleased with my two plant CFL project (that is a jungle for us rookies...hahaha). Goddess - thanks for all your cool posts here, that is what makes this place great.

Beautiful plants E=MC420!!! Yes I agree with you very much about small cabinets. Both HPS heatwise and flouro tubes space wise are difficult to control.

So in theory the most viable option for him is CFL's.

You have made a striking point to me, and in a educated manner, thank you for your patience with me.

All I saw was what he was willing to spend on lighting.

May the GG's Bless your garden!

thank you guys so much for the kind advice, sorry i havent been posting i just got back from chicago for lollapalooza but i think the CFL set up is what sounds right for me, a nice 2 plant grow like yours is a beautiful thing. just got my seeds in today, and next thing on my agenda is a carbon filter. I've been checking out a home made one using 2 diff sized cylinders of chicken wire with nylon around them to hold in activated carbon would this work for a decent filter??

Just attempt to get real activated carbon vapor phase 4mm pellitized kind 80 ctc

Dont do the walmart fish tank stuff. You can, IMO though it works like shit.
