Help with New 600w HPS MH??

hey guys i recently purchased a new 600w hps MH (electronic ballast). When i plug it in it fires and arcs but then shuts off after about 2 seconds. Then the fan will turn on for a second then off for a second. It does this about 6 times then fires for 2 seconds and repeats. Any ideas?

ok thanks guys, bought it off ebay and emailed the seller so hopefully all is good. If not might have to file under ebay buyer protection.

I have a 400W electronic ballast and I noticed that it can take 5 minutes or so to launch a MH. It will try and fail once. I'm sure it's some thing it does to warm it up or whatever. The HPS fires up a lot quicker.

who made the ballast?

might make sure they sent you the right bulb too. If it's a 400 it might do that too..

You could have a problematic bulb... I would try another bulb and see what happens. Also give it a couple minutes 1-2 and see if it fires up.

I dont think its the actual bulb thats the problem, its the ballast. If the bulb were the problem then your fans shouldn't be effected.. Do you have a power strip that you have your timers, fans, lights, etc on? Some of the newer power strips have safety funtions on them that shut down when the watts gets too high. I would try unplugging the fans and anything else you can, then plug the light in and see what happens.

Digi ballast are a little different.. well a lot different. some have a 'brain' that will sense that there might be a problem with the bulb and go into a protection mode. They usually will shut down for 5-10 min then try again in hopes that all that was wrong was a warm start. The last thing you want is for the ballast to keep trying to fire a blown bulb.. it will just end up blowing out the ballast too.
