I'm an ass hole I went to home depot yesterday and bought 2 50w hps. they were dumb as shit so I returned them today. and bought a 400w HPS bulb thinking I could plug it into an incondecent thing, but the metal screw part is like 2 times the size. So I go back to home depot to buy a fixture and they don't ave them. Will a regular lamp store have them or what can I do?

You need a special BALLAST to run ANY hps bulb! Even if it looks like it will screw into a regular socket, IT WONT WORK WITHOUT THE SPECIFIC BALLAST!

Would a regular lamp store have the HPS ballasts, because I'd rather not order from online... I dont really trust it... Is it really safe to order that type of stuff online?

probally not. try to find a hydro store in your area.

I order online all the time. Just make sure you buy from a reliable retailer Garden Waves: Hydroponic Systems & Supplies for Organic Indoor Gardening, Plus Hydroponics Information and Tips is one.

Also dont forget the HPS light consists of 3 parts. THE ballast, the light/hood and bulb. the cheapest you'll find a full kit is like 150$ for a small output (150w-250W good for a 3x3 space). And make sure the bulb wattage matches the ballast wattage otherwise *BOOM*

Just this March. I don't think they sell just the lights though. Cool set ups though. I have the cool cab.

And yes you can look for hydro shops by searching the internet or the yellow pages. Hydro is legal, it's growing in water not growing pot in water, right? Some people get shaded out going to them, just don't go a lot and buy tons of stuff, and don't mention mary jane and everything should be kosher. You would be surprised what kind of people go into hydro shops...all kinds of people like to garden.

this place has some great light setups for cheap. Just make sure you have good ventilation.

for the record, I use 9 -26w CFLs and my vegging plants love it. The flowering girls are good too but a HPS would be better. I put the light above and around the plants on the side to fill out the lower buds. But once you see your girl looking like something out of HIGH TIMES, you dont care what lights you got.
