Hi i am only new to the site and looking for some info on getting a good crop i am almost finished my third grow but my harvest is very bad, my plant are very good but very small amount of bud. i am growing in my loft and has good ventilation and am using 125watt eco light on four plants. can any one tell me what i am doing wrong also is there any Irish growers on here as i would like to compare notes with you.
Thanks.... Jonerr

Well, it's the same old story "YOU NEED MORE LIGHT."

Geeze, that was a chuckle.. I have a low post count here but not a lack of experience.

I am a big fan of blended spectrum. Mixing the Red and Blue. I believe that comes from the Midnight reading of my secret first grow book. Hid it from my wife believe it or not. In that book it made the case of light from the red spectrum and the Blue spectrum provide energy for two different things in a plant if I remember right.
So check out the plants need for light. Cannabis can handle 90 watts per sq ft of great light. I myself have grown under those conditions with 1500 watts of blended spectrum HID in three cool tubes in a 16 sq ft planter box I built myself.

Now convection is very important. Cool air in low and hot air out high. With that I wonder if you are getting a real lean Co2 being up high in the loft. Interesting issue as Co2 can turn a thin budding plant into a phat budding plant.

Well exactly what is best for you I don't know but if you provide cool medium for the roots, cool inlet rich with Co2 from fresh cool air drawn from low and have a bit more than 125 watts. Twin 250's ( a twin 250 watt ballast from Galaxy "I own one" ) you are in the ball park to grow 4 plants. I'd rather have the 400/600/1000/1020 ballast to be sure I get my plants to put on some Ice but the twin 250 with one MH and one HPS is a nice unit IMO. Just an example.

So create a happy world for the plants because they are alive and they experience their environment so one step is Happy Happy happy so they want to grow. Cool inlet Co2 rich hot stale exhausted out of the room.

Reflective walls: I suggest avoiding mylar. It's just my take on it but that Aluminium Bubble Wrap house insulation has been a dream for me. I did the small circle reflection rather than the wavy or flat nature of Mylar.

What else can I suggest? Want to share your room setup? I have experience with HID and CFL and those 40 watt tubes.

Thanks Ernst for your advice, I will have to sort lighting out. I will buy the 250 watt with ballast and hopefully will do the job for me. I will put on some pics of my plants as soon as i can. Thanks again Ern

Look for a deal on a slightly used ballast and hood.
Got my 600 for $200 came with both MH and Hps.
Hot hot hot. but well worth it. Being in a loft maybe you can get a good exhaust system going out.

You will find the help/support here. These guys know their stuff!

Yeah .. It's expensive but the Ballasts are much better than 10 years ago when I bought my first 1k Mag. Oh it still works fine but today's switchable wattage electronics are much better at driving the frequency in even old bulbs.

I have to say that unless you can grow outside in the sun it's expense at every turn.

Wait until you turn into a Home De Pot Zombie. All red eyed and wandering the hardware isles just for fun.

If you can get a switchable 600 watt for 250/400/600. The Benefit of high lumes is shorter plants and more frost ( if the plant can do that ) you will NOT be sorry. I Promise. It's just hard to spend so much to get a harvest and the costs is never fully recouped unless you can sell produce.

When i see a room with 6 or 8 1k hanging I think My Gawd $4k in ballasts and another 1k in bulbs.
