Did you use the gg4 recombined ibl that tony green made. As the cutting normaly herms quick with out any chems. But tonys line has been work hard for many generations and is solid and potent. Possibly why you were having issues reversing

Gg4 is a accident from a herm so it is no suprise its progeny herm see when you s1 something you will find the recessive genes from the parent will be dominant traits in the progeny or at least most of them

I do not understand the fear of using the runts that don't hermy. If you are getting pure males and pure females those are the ones to use and dont just pollinate one branch, pollinate every flower on the plant that you, can don't leave any to possibly catch some hermy pollen. If you insist on using a hermy female timing will be key you need your male dropping pollen as the first female flowers show up on the hermy plant and then do the same pollinate every flower you possibly can with a true male and not leave any for the hermy male flowers to pollinate. The next generation do the same and by the third generation the hermy trait should be bred out. I know this works as I have done it many times, most recently to an old orange bud strain. And you notice in my post I said “Almost” every female, I know not all will, that’s why the almost was there.
