Hermies are a myth

Everyday there is a thread with someone talking about hermies and how feminized seeds are evil...I call bullshit on hermies...they're a myth. I've been part of dozens of different Dutch passion Fem'd grows, mostly Blueberry, now we are working with Sensi Seeds fem's and have never seen a hermie and we are talking hundreds of seeds by now.

People must really be doing some fucked up shit to these plants to make them go "hermie". I've seen females go to seed if they've been left flowering too long but it was always regular seeds, never fem'd seeds.

You stated youve grown most Dutch passions Blueberry, so I feel I must ask you: What can I do to increase the chances of my blueberry buds turning blue?

Dont herm seeds make plants that have a higher tendency to become herm? And I remember reading that in order to get feminized seed the plant is treated with a chemical. In other words the feminized seed you get from breeders werent formed by stressing a plant and taking the pollen and you get feminized seeds. The only place ive ever heard of herm pollen=feminized is on these forums. I have never read it in a book or manual.

Hello Folks, I have been reading up on and experimenting here and there,and unfortunatly...last year a seed crop was done within a day buy a female starting to turn.And turn it did,growing male pods and opening quickly.Both strains are of great seeds.I'm just wondering if theese seeds i now have are more prone to be herms or females?After breeding for years you find that some strains have more herms than others.So are these seeds going to be more likely to be mostly hermies or should the risk be taken??? Please i try not to ask many questions,but hey i just have to.Thanks,and God Bless You All.

ive been lucky with herm seeds but you never now keep things as stable as possible youll probably. thats funny that guy burning himself i wonder what he was thinking when that happened haha.

They couldnt be a strain that would have a higher percentage of hermaphroditing? like the strain blueberry from DP.

there are herm tendencies in all cannabis seeds. it is a natural survival trait for the plant. stress activates these traits. some strains take more stress to herm but all probably can under enough stress. if a plant is stressed enough it will try to produce seed to preserve its genetics if it dies. the plant imparts these tendencies to the seeds produced in case bad conditions are encountered again in the next life cycle this guarantees species survival during poor seasonal conditions in the wild.:peace:

I tried explaining exactly what you just said to a dealer.. he heard "hermie" and when he caught on that meant hermaphrodite he thought it was hilarious, was like trying to explain the theory to a 5 year old.

trying to explain most things to most people is like speaking to a 5 year old sadly. most cannabis strains even under no stress will produce pollen very late in there flower cycle to make certain they grow anew next spring if not for this ability we might not be smoking cannabis at all as it might have gone extinct long ago. that method is how some breeders make fem seeds as opposed to colloidal silver or gibberellic acid either method works well though.

well, one of the strains I have going starts throwing bananas as soon as the trychs start to go amber. 9 out of ten anyway. I have two other strains that I have been running and none of them turned.

Also some southeast asian varieties typically are hermies. pretty much an established fact.

pinkus your exactly right, iahve a landrace from vietnam a friend brought back in the 70's and i've been growing it for years and it has a tendency to hermie late in flowering..also a chinese variety from the yunnan area also has those tendencies..
