Hid wattage

I'm a new grower and I have a 36x36x72 tent and I'm planning on growing 6 plants in it what HID wattage should i use? And is it safe to grow different strains inside of it?

Hell you could fit 36 in there with a SoG but they should all be the same strain in that case, same phenotype even better. It's all up to you, but you may want to try and stick with strains that are roughly the same size. I have had sativa dominant strains that get so big they would overtake any smaller strains.

I agree with those guys and would say 2 plants max and go with a 600w HPS or 315CMH if you think heat will be an issue. I have a 315 in a 32x32 tent and love it for 1 to 2 plants. I'd also stick with one strain at a time to start with until you get a hang of things.

Sure, people squeeze more plants into that size space all the time, but they are usually doing it with the benefit of experience. I've been growing for years now and am just trying a 9 plant/8 strain SOG in the aforementioned 32x32 and am 90% sure it's gonna be a shitshow.

Im about half way through my first grow with 4 different strains of autoflowers in a 4ftx3ftx5ft space (check pics below to see how cramped it is right now).

You can grow different strains, at the same time. But know that each plant may require different concentrations of different nutes at different times. You won’t know how different each plant is until you start. If you want to keep your watering/feeding as simple as possible do all the same strain, but if you’re willing to go the extra mile it can certainly be done for a little more effort.

Also, if you are truly set on doing different strains in the same run my suggestion would be to use LST or some type of training to keep all the plants at similar heights.

With all the above considered, 6 plants may get rather crowded in the space you have. Right now, I have 7 in my space and it’s getting crowded. Just remember, those babies will fill out a lot once they start flowering.

Also, to answer your question about lights. I have a 600W MH/HPS light and a 200w LED wall light to get light to the lower parts of the plants. I would say 600w will give you great results, you just want to make sure you have adequate ventation since HID lighting puts out so much heat.

I’m admittedly a new grower, but I’m willing to help ya any way I can!

Happy growing!

Sincerely,
The Budding Horticulturist
