Last night I went to bed with my grow box at 75-77 degrees fahrenheit. I just checked it and its at 85 degrees but I can see noticeable growth. The plant is only about 2 inches and this is my first grow. Should I lower the temperature, if so what is the ideal temperature for lights on and lights off? ( Im doing a 24 hour light cycle, is that best ? )

I like to run 77 to 80 degrees 18 on and 6 off is your best bet for vegitation the 6 hours dark helps root development hope this helps

your good, anything over 85 is getting uncomfortable for them and they'll stop growing. i do 24/0 myself.

You should consider under what conditions the temp hit 85 though- are the summer months going to push that limit up? If so you should be solving this now.

This box is only temporary Im working on a new one that has better air circulation. But on the light cycle should I do 24/0 or 16/8? Im going to do low stress training soon when it gets big enough and I want a strong plant. :joint:

I veg under 18 hours of light, might as well save the electricity right? Plus if you're going to flower in the same cabinet, the dark time will let you practice some lights-out temperature control if that's an issue.

I fixed the fan and now the temperature is 77 degrees. I am only using a 13 watt CFL and the plant is looking very healthy. How do I know when to upgrade to a higher wattage? The plant is about 2 inches now what do you recommend? I am doing low stress training on the plant soon so how many watts should I have if Im only using 1 light bulb?

as much as you can afford and keep cool.

I have access to many different CFL bulbs so its just deciding how many watts is good for the plant. Its 2 inches now or does the height of the plant not matter? Is it all about getting the most watts as long as it doesnt get to hot or damage the plant? This is my first plant and I want to keep it looking healthy. I will post a pic when it gets a little bigger.

thx all for the replies:joint::hump:

it all depends on the plant you are growing though. my grow closet is never below 85 degrees and my plants are thriving. when it got to 95 degrees they shriveled a little but kept growing beutifully. talkt to your plants. ask em how hot they want it. but generally....stay below 80 lol

Ok it was a 13 watt CFL now I use a 26 watt CFL... Ill see how much hotter it gets. The plant is only 2 inches tall. If your plants are never below 85 shouldn't i be ok with 80-83 degrees?

I think you will be fine, but others might say that is a bit warm.

do remember though that once the plant gets bigger your gonna need way more light.

I have 6 26W CFL's as well as 2 42W CFL's covering a one month old plan right now.
