HLG 100

Been doing my fair share of research on these things I rather not build my own. Rather buy one that is fully built.

I’m currently running a 400watt MH for veg in one tent. Tent is about 2.8 feet by 2.8 feet.

I want to implement a flowering HLG 100 in my flower tent. Light will cost me $194 from HLG Canada. Tent will be the same size. Can I get away with this size? I don’t see any HLG 130 available.

It would work for veg in that size space but not for flower.
You want about 230w ish.. The XW 260w kit would be good.

Edit, just looked on BCblondes since your Canadian, nothing really suitable for your space.
Have you thought about building a strip build?

Contemplated doing a strip build. But I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to building these things. Let alone wiring them correctly and so forth. I want to go LED. But I have no decided not to use the blurple lights.

Can’t even get buy with one 135watt for flower on two plants eh?

If you stick to 2x2 ft you can, I have seen people go as little as 25w per square foot with great results. So you could extend that 2x2 slightly.

So I’m probably better off running a 260watt at 3,000k for flower and then eventually upgrade my MH to a 100watt 4000k for lowering?

Probably be cheaper to run 1 260watt over 2 135watt in the flower tent?

Not following you there, changing a 400w mh to a 100w QB wouldn't be an upgrade as it only replaces 200w of MH.
That said it will veg the space fine, but it is less light so slower growth. Would be a big saving on electricity if that's your aim though.

To run, it would be a bit cheaper for the 260 over two 135w but you can dim either I think. The two smaller kits would give you more flexibility. The 260w kits as standard cover a 2x4 really well due to the layout of the boards, the 260w extra wide is better coverage for square tents. Just not sure if there is a difference in price due to the slightly different heat sinks. Also it looks like HLG Canada do not stock the full range of QB products, they seem to be concentrating on the more expensive ranges like the 300 and the 550.
Another option would be the new QB96s . Looks like they are selling those with a heat sink for 129 Canadian. So with the right driver you could put them in beast mode and run two in series and light up your space pretty good.

I am concerned about electricity. So that is why I mentioned removing the MH for a 100watt or 135 board eventually.

If you have a legal small grow, efficiency comes second to putting down as much light as you can in the probably small area you are aloting for the purpose.

They are slightly heafty. I remember my first few grows I used a 400mh and a 400HPS. I didn’t pay the bill, but damn it was high. So I’m trying to steer away from that. As to the actual rate I wouldn’t be able to advise. Don’t have a bill near me.

I guess I’ll settle on a 260watt XL when it comes back in stock. Be a bit cheaper than the V2 260watt. Any huge difference here? And that size should fit my tent that is just under 3x3?

Only real difference between 260w and XW (not extra long) is light uniformity.
The XL wouldnt fit been the heat sink is 35" long.
The XW is less than 20" length.
The standard 260w is 24" or there abouts.

I would be happy with the standard for your space but if the price was close would go for the XW. The boards are side on next to each other instead of been end to end.
