HLG 550v2 - VS - Alibaba light

OK, so that is one point for HLG
Yeah and good luck when the Alibaba light fails. I have dealt with HLG and their retailer Growers Lights. Both companies service is top notch above and beyond the call of duty. The savings of buying on Alibaba is not worth it. Oh and sh*t does fail on these lights. HLG stuff is pretty bullet proof but diode lights and ballasts will fail and HLG or their retailers will fix it fast. I have bought about 4 and had problems with one. May have been my guy's fault not tinning one wire enough. HLG and Growers Lights are great.

PS: In the near future I may be looking at a Chinese hemp dryer that is about $43,000. I am not anti Chinese. If I could find something in USA - I would do it. One American guy tried a shipping container with fans but did not go into production.

Look at autoclaves for drying. If you need something that big. Several made in USA.

I think youre right when you say dont count on th ali warranty as sending stuff back to china is just not worth it. But i find the statement excessively alarmist. Iirc ive actually seen more hlg diodes go out (line of 16 i believe, on Mos qb) than ive seen ali diodes go out (i think WSWS had a couple go out and the board was replaced, and another guy had another handfull which wasnt replaced). The thing is: with 25$ boards the whole equation gets different: its a consumable. Did anyone ever got their hps bulb replaced under warranty or saw this as a problem? Not really. Also if you understand how to take advantage of cheap boards (run them softer, and more of them) you arent pushing your equipment as hard as you would do a HLG board.

To be perfectly honest what i find surprising is how well all these boards run, hlg and china boards, if you compare to what led growlights used to be.

Let me be straight, i fully support HLGs efforts of getting the absolute best diodes to people with excellent service, and i thank them for pushing things forward. In the end all the china boards are just followers.

But i dont think it means that ali boards will automatically fail. Weve seen a total of zero diodes go out running more than 20000 diodes for about a year. What to look out for really are the connectors that seem to be dodgy on most china boards.

Also, if youre not state side the warranty is equally difficult to claim, although ive seen hlg sometimes just sends a new board, not asking for the broke one back.

I’m excited to get this down, as far as set up for the grow off it’s going to look like so:

Grow Area: 10x12 Shed with x2 4x4 trays - separated with a Panda Paper wall framed with 2x2’s to keep things “fair”

Strain: Cookie Frost
Start Date: Sept. 1st

I still have a few walls to hit with panda paper before I can even get plants in there. Fell a little behind his summer tending to the outdoor projects but i’m hoping for a light week in the office.

As far as cost to buy each separate light, I don’t really give a shit about the cost of one or two lights. I do care about discovering a great alternative to an overpriced item that is mass produced.

Happy Growing.

well I got sucked into another video project for a client which will consume my extra time for the next 3 days. I won’t be able to play in the room until Saturday :( regardless looks like i made a little headway in the perpetual Veg garden somehow ( Veg Tent / Strain continuance purpose )

I pulled a lot of my seeds from my breeding project too but they arent pictured as of yet.

Here’s the current flavors in veg / clone phase:

Banna OG
Forbidden Fruit
Sunset Sherbet
Blueberry Muffin
Hades OG
Strawberry Banana
Purple Punch
Blue Dream

Well I’ve finally converted all my HPS hoods to LED can’t wait to see the energy saving!

Picked up two of these guys with dimmers - pretty hyped

Should I side by side this vs the HLG 550

OR

use the other light that’s split into two panels?

My homie only had Hades OG for me so i’ll be rocking that one flavor for this test.

Looks like i’ll be placing 25 in each 4x4 tray - not usually the numbers i like to run but oh well

Happy Growing

Going to be doing the transplant overhaul this weekend - the wife doesn’t get back from Europe for a couple days, perfect timing!

I just took a first round of cuts:

Sunset Sherbet
Cookie Frost

Got a wall to panda paper still but then it’s off to handing lights and oscillating fans.

Planning to be done Sunday morning with the finishing touches.

Happy Growing

I have had problems with hlg stuff but they are quick to fix it.
I had a row of diodes go out on my fotop board. They sent me the price of the board back cause it’s too expensive for them to send just 1 board. I’m cool with a free board cause 1 row went out tho.

9 boards per 4x8 table driven about 150 watts per board
Week 3? Wow. Beautiful and super clean setup. Do you need the A/C much due to the boards or just outside temps? Really nice set up.

Thanks bro. Spent a lot of time setting it up lol. I do need a/c cause I run it as a sealed room. Also summer was hot. I might be able to take it out during winter tho and not run it sealed. Use the heat to heat the house lmfao. Still learning this room and adjusting with the seasons.

Btw op awesome to see this comparison grow coming. With that said I’m a huge fan of these 800 boards.

You might need scrog nets or yo yo's soon as those buds are going to start getting heavy.

The ones in the back growing into the lights are crazy. A scrog net earlier might have helped that. Just tryin to help. Looks great.

I’ve been using stakes. I thought about doing trellis. They’re just a pain tho lol. I still may eventually go that route. See how this grow goes.
